It turns out that Troy Percival does not need surgery on his right elbow, according to the AP. He has been sidelined since July 10 because of a muscle tear in his elbow. "He's (Dr. Lewis Yocum) not going to want to do any surgery," Percival said. "He liked the way the scar tissue looked to be healing. The strength was coming, so I'm basically in a pattern where I can start doing some rehab stuff, some strengthening stuff, and then start throwing in December. Then we'll go from there."

The Tigers transerred Troy Percival to the 60-day disabled list, according to the AP. He was placed on the 15-day DL on July 14, retroactive to July 10, with a partial tear of the right flexor pronator muscle mass. Percival is out for the rest of the season.

In the situation that surgery is needed, it is likely that he would retire. "If I never threw another pitch," said Percival, "I'm content with what I've done, but not with what I've done here." He holds a 5.76 ERA in 26 games with the Tigers this season.

The Tigers placed Troy Percival on the 15-day disabled list with a torn right forearm muscle, according to the AP. He is 1-3 with a 5.76 ERA this season and has eight saves in 11 chances. Percival was on the DL from May 8 to June 4 with the same injury. It's not clear if Kyle Farnsworth, Fernando Rodney or Franklyn German will take over as the new closer.

The Detroit News reports that Troy Percival will not immediately regain the closer role for the Tigers. Percival is expected to work a middle innings and setup role for a while until he proves he's back to 100 percent. Troy Percival got the final three outs on Monday to finally earn his first save as a member of the Tigers. Even more encouraging was the fact that he struck out two of the three batters he faced. Coming into the game, Percival had just two strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.

Troy Percival blew his first save of the season Friday night when he gave up a homer to Justin Morneau in the ninth, but he held on through the tenth inning to pick up his first win, as Pudge Rodriguez hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the inning. He has yet to earn a save with the Tigers.
