Multiple sources out of Detroit are reporting that the Tigers signed Troy Percival to a two-year, $12 million contract on Wednesday. The Tigers overpaid for Percival, whose health has been an issue the past couple of seasons, but improving the bullpen was clearly the club's biggest need. With Ugueth Urbina already signed for 2005, the Tigers will have a clouded closer picture barring any trades before spring training.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Troy Percival is scheduled to meet with the Indians this week. Percival's agent said that the free agent closer had narrowed his decision to six teams. The Tigers are one of the other clubs known to be pursuing Percival.

Free agent Troy Percival is expected to meet with the Tigers this week, according to the Detroit Free Press. He'll be with a new team next season, as the Angels are replacing him with Francisco Rodriguez as their closer. Percival likely also will meet with other teams, including the Cubs, Giants and Indians.

Francisco Rodriguez will be the new closer for the Angels, though Percival will surely get the same job with someone else.

The LA Times reports that the Anaheim Angels have expressed no interest in re-signing Troy Percival during the offseason. His agent, Paul Cohen, said "four or five" teams have contact him about his client. "He wants to pitch another three or four years," Cohen said. "He's left with no choice but to see what else is out there."

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said he didn't call on Troy Percival Wednesday or Thursday simply to keep his closer healthy and fresh, according to the LA Times. Percival received an injection of muscle relaxant in his lower back last week and has been bothered this season by a sore elbow. The Angels don't plan to use him on three straight days or four out of five days.
