Player Notes
September 23, 2009
Matt Wieters went 2-for-4 with his eighth major league home run on Wednesday night, but the Orioles still lost 7-3 in Toronto.

Our View:The O's wonder kid is now batting .290 with eight home runs and 38 RBI in 86 games this season. He will be a nice earlier round gamble next season, though he could be subject to a sophomore slump as the America League's pitchers make their inevitable adjustments.

Matt Wieters carried the Orioles in tonight's 4-2 win over the Rays at Camden Yards, as he went 1-for-3 with a two-run walkoff homer in the bottom of the ninth. He had three RBI overall.

Our View:The prized rookie catcher gave a preview of great things to come with the Orioles. He is hitting .302 with two homers over 43 at-bats this month. He also racked up nine RBI over his last three.

Matt Wieters was the only Oriole with multiple hits on Tuesday night, as the O's got hammered 10-0 in Boston.

Our View:Wieters is batting .268 since getting called up in late May, though he has just five home runs since then.
August 28, 2009
Uber-hyped prospect Matt Wieters ripped apart Indians pitching on Friday. He went 3-for-4 with four RBI in the 13-4 win.

Our View:This was just the third time all season Wieters has collected three or more hits in a game and the four RBI is a new career high, doubling his previous total.
August 11, 2009
Matt Wieters is out of Tuesday's lineup against Oakland.

Our View:Wieters is not believed to be nursing an injury, and skipper Dave Trembley is merely holding the rookie out to rest. Chad Moeller will work behind the plate in his place.
