MLB.com reports that Jeff Larish will work at third base, rather than first, in the Arizona Fall League. Should he show well, he stands a good chance to make the 2009 Major League roster. He filled in for Carlos Guillen down the stretch and finished the season with a .260 average and 16 RBI in 104 at-bats.

Our View:His league-leading 28 home runs and 101 RBIs at Double-A Erie earned him Tigers Minor League Player of the Year honors in 2007, and he followed that with 21 homers and 64 RBIs in 103 games for Toledo this year. With more work, he could provide the lefty power the Tigers have sought in some kind of role for the last few years, but the Tigers have to find a way to use him. It has been said that Guillen may find himself playing outfield next season.

Infielder Jeff Larish was recalled from Triple-A Toledo by the Tigers on Wednesday, according to the Detroit Free Press. He is in the lineup hitting fifth and playing third base in Detroit's game against the Indians.

Our View:Larish has 48 at-bats this year this year with the Tigers and hit .245, which is in line with his minor league numbers. He showed good pop in Triple-A, hitting 21 home runs in 384 at-bats, but he also struck out 109 times.

Jeff Larish is going to be tried out at third base in the Arizona Fall League, according to the Detroit News. Miguel Cabrera has a seven-year contract to play first base with the Tigers, and the club wants to audition Larish at third base to give the powerful left-handed hitter a shot to make an impact with the club next season. Manager Jim Leyland said, "I like Larish. I like him a lot."

Our View:Carlos Guillen is 32 and Brandon Inge looks to be set at catcher for 2009, meaning Larish will be considered an option at third when spring training begins next season.
