Player Notes
October 12, 2008
Blake DeWitt's lone hit in Sunday's Game 3 against the Phillies was a big one. He recorded a two-out, three-run triple in the first inning off of Phillies' starter Jamie Moyer.

Our View:He is hitting just .125 in the playoffs but he blew the game open on Sunday. He has been more impressive in the field than at the plate but he was the complete package in Game 3.
September 27, 2008
Blake DeWitt went 3-for-4 with two RBI and his ninth home run in the Dodgers' 2-1 win over the Giants.

Our View:DeWitt has had an up and down year at the plate and with Casey Blake entrenched at third base, he will probably not see many at-bats in the playoffs.
September 18, 2008
Blake DeWitt went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Pirates. His hit was a single, and Matt Kemp's double was the only extra base hit for the Dodgers.

Our View:DeWitt has registered an RBI in three of his last four games, and has nine over 16 games in September.
September 4, 2008
Angel Berroa and Blake DeWitt have teamed up in the middle of the infield in place of Nomar Garciaparra and Jeff Kent, and the result has been a 5-game winning streak for the Dodgers, according to MLB.com.

Our View:DeWitt returned from the minors and has been hitting like Kent with a .316 average, two home runs and four RBI over 19 AB, a nice switch after he went 47 games without a long ball. He figures to continue to play at second if he hits like that.
August 31, 2008
Blake DeWitt will be the second baseman for the Dodgers in the absence of Jeff Kent, who has been playing with torn cartilage in his knee, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Our View:DeWitt had a very good beginning of the season before leveling off. Should he resume his previous level, he could be of real help to fantasy owners, but as it is should only be used in NL-only formats.
August 29, 2008
Blake DeWitt, a third baseman by nature, had been seeing some time at second base in the minors because the Dodgers are interested in bringing back Casey Blake, and the team could see him replacing Jeff Kent, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN.com.

Our View:Blake started off very well before stumbling, but he is a former high draft pick who has potential to be be an everyday player.
August 27, 2008
After being sent down to Triple-A Las Vegas, Blake DeWitt is on his way back to the Dodgers. According to the Los Angeles Daily News, to make room for DeWitt, Pablo Ozuna has been designated for assignment.

Our View:With Casey Blake at third base don't expect DeWitt to see to many plate appearances.
July 27, 2008
Blake DeWitt has been demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas to clear a roster spot for Casey Blake, according to the LA Times. DeWitt said, "It's understandable. You don't produce, it's not going to be in your favor."

Our View:DeWitt was the NL rookie of the month in May, when he belted .322 with five home runs and 18 RBI. But over the cource of his next 40 games, he hit a dismal .200 with six RBI.
June 14, 2008
The Dodgers have moved Blake DeWitt up to second in the order on Saturday, the Los Angeles Daily News reports.. The third baseman is hitting only .189 (7-for-37) in June, and he has seen only three at-bats this season above the sixth spot in the order.

Our View:This is likely a temporary move, and we're not sure why Andre Ethier or Matt Kemp isn't in that slot. Maybe Joe Torre is just trying to show a little faith in the rookie.
June 12, 2008
Blake DeWitt went 0-for-3 on Thursday and now has just seven hits in his last 37 AB (.189) to drop his average to .281, this after a huge month of May that earned him Rookie of the Month honors.

Our View:With Andy LaRoche with the big league club, DeWitt had better start hitting or he could find himself losing a few at-bats in the short-term and a lot in the long-term when Nomar Garciaparra returns.
June 11, 2008
MLB.com reports that Blake DeWitt is the May NL Rookie of the Month. The award comes after DeWitt hit .322 in May with five homers and 18 RBIs. Dodgers manager Joe Torre has referred to DeWitt as "a godsend" when reflecting on how much DeWitt has done to solve the dilemma at third base.

Our View:DeWitt may see less at-bats in June do to the call up of Andy LaRoche and recovery of Nomar Garciaparra. He may be a good sell-high candidate. He was selected over NL nominees Joey Votto of Cincinnati, Geovany Soto of the Cubs and Manny Acosta of the Braves.
June 1, 2008
Blake DeWitt has been fielding ground balls at second base prior to games, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Our View:The Dodgers have a major logjam around their infield, and they are trying to find a spot for Andy LaRoche, who is in the minors. We don't believe the club is ready to ditch Jeff Kent, but it's possible they are angling for a long-term move for DeWitt.
June 1, 2008
Blake DeWitt went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Saturday. The rookie closed out May with a .322 average, five homers, 18 RBI, and 14 runs over 26 games.

Our View:DeWitt's numbers don't look like much at one of fantasy baseball's best positions (third base), but the rookie has delivered way more than the Dodgers expected. Fantasy owners in keeper leagues should be mildly excited, especially if they picked him very late in their drafts.
May 28, 2008
As Dodgers second baseman Jeff Kent continues to miss time with a bad back, manager Joe Torre is starting to ponder his options, which may include third baseman Blake DeWitt , according to MLB.com.

Our View:The team is running minor leaguer Andy LaRoche through the motions of trials at nearly every infield position should he be needed, but DeWitt has a full season in the minors at second base and has told Torre he would be more than happy to take a turn at the spot while Kent continues to heal. Torre hopes Kent is back sooner than later, but based on the experience of Rafael Furcal when his back was injured, the potential of a prolonged rehabilitation has Torre giving all options consideration.
May 17, 2008
Blake DeWitt hit a two-run home run in the second inning to help defeat Ervin Santana and the Angels 6-3 on Saturday.

Our View:DeWitt continues to make a case that the Dodgers don't need Nomar Garciaparra.
May 15, 2008
Blake DeWitt was scratched for Thursday's game, according to the LA Daily News. He is battling lower back pain.

Our View:Russell Martin is covering his post at third base, and Gary Bennett is playing catcher. The severity of his ailment is yet to be revealed.
May 7, 2008
Dodger 3B Blake DeWitt , a rookie in the midst of an impressive introduction to the league, did the heavy lifting to help LA post a 5-4 victory over the New York Mets. DeWitt went 3-for-4 at the plate, hitting his 2nd home run of the season to total four RBIs and two runs scored on the evening.

Our View:Over his last 10 games, DeWitt has totaled 13 hits, 13 RBIs, and 23 total bases.
April 25, 2008
Blake DeWitt has been sent down to the minors, according to the LA Times. Nomar Garciaparra has taken over as the starting third baseman and Andy LaRoche will be in the mix when he returns from injury, meaning DeWitt was expendable. The team sent him down to make room on the roster for right-handed hurler Cory Wade, who has been called up from Double-A Jacksonville.

Our View:DeWitt only hit .255 over 18 games, with five RBI, and didn't do enough to merit a stay in the big leagues. He never played above Double-A before joining the Dodgers, and needs some time in the minors before he can make an impact.
April 8, 2008
Blake DeWitt has fallen into a hitting slump, according to MLB.com. Since starting the season hitting a solid 5-for-8, he is currently in an 0-for-13 slump that sunk his average to .238. He will be looking to bounce back against D-Backs' pitcher Doug Davis, who is 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA.
April 6, 2008
Blake DeWitt expects to play Sunday night against San Diego, according to MLB.com. He stated that he expects to be ready to start Sunday, after taking a shot from a Jake Peavy pitch to the back of his right arm on Saturday. The pitch notably hit DeWitt where the tricep meets the elbow, and it tightened up very quickly. He remained in the game, but was reportedly having trouble making the throw across the diamond in between-inning warmups. DeWitt commented, "It just caught me wrong, but it hit mostly muscle." This is good news for the Dodgers' youngster, who has five hits over 14 RBI so far this season. The Dodgers are already thin enough at third base as well.
April 1, 2008
Blake DeWitt started at 3B for the Dodgers on Monday and enjoyed a solid debut, according to the LA Times. He went 1-for-2 against the Giants and commented after the game, "Walking up to that plate, I heard my named called and I told myself, 'Be patient, be calm, breathe. You can get caught not breathing and start shaking a bit." He also added that it was nice to get the first hit out of the way.
March 20, 2008
Blake DeWitt may start at third base on opening day, due to injuries to LaRoche and Garciaparra. DeWitt will get extended playing time the remainder of spring training, and is notably hitting 9-for-35, with two home runs and only three strikeouts.
March 13, 2008
Blake DeWitt had a big day in a losing effort for the Dodgers as he went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Two of his hits were a triple and a home run, his second of the spring.
