Player Notes
September 12, 2008
In his second career start, Shairon Martis pitched 5-plus innings against the Marlins on Friday night while striking out nine. He came away with his second loss as he gave up two runs.

Our View:The nine strikeouts in a short outing makes this a good showing for the 21-year-old rookie. Keep an eye on him down the stretch.
September 6, 2008
Shairon Martis will remain in the Nationals' rotation and Jason Bergmann will be moved to the bullpen according to the AP. Martis gave up four hits and five walks but only two earned runs in five innings during his major league debut Thursday night, a 2-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves.

Our View:Martis is one of the better pitching prospects in the Nationals' organization and this move is his chance to audition for a permanent spot in the 2009 rotation.
September 4, 2008
Shairon Martis lost his first major league appearance though he allowed just two runs over five innings against the Braves.

Our View:Martis did himself in on this night by walking five batters on the evening. It's tough to excel in this game as a youngster when everything goes right, and when you give the opposing team that much help, you're basically sunk.
