MLBlogs.com reports that Mike Aviles (elbow) threw from shortstop on Tuesday for the first time this spring.

Our View:Aviles is still recovering from Tommy John surgery he had last July and is not expected to be ready to start the season. He is making progress though, as he played second base in an intrasquad game Tuesday. When he's healthy he'll be a nice bounce-back candidate in a thin category that can be had on the cheap. He bears monitoring.

Royals general manager Dayton Moore said that Kansas City still sees Mike Aviles as a part of their long-term plans, according to AOL Fanhouse's Jeff Fletcher.

Our View:Aviles broke out in the middle infield as a rookie in 2008 but struggled mightily to start off 2009 before injuring his elbow and requiring Tommy John surgery. He remains out indefinitely, and while it's nice to know that the Royals view him as a starter once he's ready to play again, it'd still be tough to give him any initial fantasy consideration this year.

Mike Aviles (elbow) will not be healthy by opening day, according to Sam Mellinger of the Kansas City Star.

Our View:That, coupled with his huge regression in 2009, makes him un-draftable in all mixed formats. Stay away this spring.

According to MLB.com, Royals' shortstop Mike Aviles underwent successful Tommy John surgery on Wednesday.

Our View:Aviles will miss the entire 2009 season and the injury will likely keep him out of part of the 2010 season as well. Don't make any fantasy plans for him for a very long time.

According to the Kansas City Star, Mike Aviles will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.

Our View:Aviles looks to be out for nine to 12 months, so don't count him into your fantasy plans until around this time next year. He originally felt pain in his elbow and forearm in spring training, but battled through it until May 23rd when he landed on the DL. That may not have been the best decision though as he hit just .183 while in the lineup this season.
