Player Notes
March 19, 2010
Rick Porcello allowed four runs (only one earned) in three innings of work against the Yankees on Friday. He struck out three.

Our View:His spring ERA now rests at 0.75. So far, so good for the young hurler's sophomore campaign.
March 14, 2010
Rick Porcello hurled four scoreless spring innings against the Rays on Sunday. He struck out none while walking two.

Our View:In other words, a fairly typical Porcello outing. He won't overpower hitters, but more often than not, he'll figure out a way to get them out.
March 9, 2010
Rick Porcello looked great against Washington on Tuesday, throwing three scoreless innings while giving up two hits and zero walks.

Our View:That makes five scoreless innings for the youngster so far this spring. Continue to monitor his progress this spring, as he could potentially be ready to make a leap in his second season in the bigs.
October 6, 2009
Rick Porcello allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over 5.2 innings in tonight's 6-5 loss at Minnesota. He had two walks and fired eight strikeouts. The game went 12 innings.

Our View:Porcello pitched very well tonight, and is not to blame in the tough loss that ended Detroit's season. The rookie allowed two or less earned runs in four of his final five starts of 2009.

MLB.com reports that rookie hurler Rick Porcello will get the start against the Twins in Tuesday's one game playoff.

Our View:The rook has never pitched on a stage this big and the Tigers are asking a lot of their young prospect to step up and usher them to the postseason. Not even a week ago the Tigers claimed they were shutting Porcello down for the season. My how things change.
