Brian Barton who was on the DL due to an oblique injury was activated on Tuesday and will be relegated to just pinch-running until he is fully healthy, according to the Cardinals official website.

Our View:Barton will only pinch run until he is ready to go full out. He was not a fantasy factor before his trip to the DL and will not be a factor now that he is back. Ba

Barton (oblique) has increased the aggressiveness of his workouts recently and hopes to return from the DL on Tuesday, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:Barton will be used as a pinch-hitter and defensive replacement again when he does return.
August 26, 2008
The Cardinals placed Brian Barton on the DL Tuesday with a strained right oblique. He was injured on Sunday.

Our View:Barton was 3-for-3 in his first start back but now is headed back to the DL. He'll be back up in September.
August 15, 2008
Brian Barton has been activated from the DL, according to the AP. He has been out since July 6 with a deep bone bruise on his right wrist. The Cardinals placed Chris Carpenter on the 15-day DL as the adjoining move.

Our View:Barton batted .246 with two homers and 11 RBI over 63 games with St. Louis this season, and is only worth consideration in deeper NL-only leagues.
August 13, 2008
Cardinals outfielder Brian Barton is with the team and ready to return from his stint on the DL, according to StLCardinals.com.

Our View:Barton is hitting .246 in limited at-bats and is not a fantasy option.

Brian Barton will return from his rehab assignment at Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:Barton has played well in Memphis, with a .309 average and three home runs in 55 at-bats there. He doesn't get much playing time in the big leagues, so his fantasy value is low.
July 23, 2008
Brian Barton, who is recovering from a fracture in his right wrist, will report to Triple-A Memphis Wednesday to begin a rehab assignment, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:As a Rule 5 draft pick, Barton must remain on the Cardinals' major-league roster all season for them to gain control of his rights. As with other major league players, the rules allow for Barton to go on a 20-day rehab assignment without passing through waivers or using an option. He will be back in a part-time role when his wrist allows, but will not merit fantasy attention, as he only hit .246 over 122 at-bats this season before getting hurt.
July 10, 2008
Brian Barton has a hairline fracture of his right wrist, according to StLCardinals.com. He is expected to start rehabbing after the All-Star break.

Our View:Barton doesn't see nearly enough at-bats to warrant fantasy consideration. The Rule 5 player is hitting just .246 on the season, though he will be back in the majors in a part-time role when his wrist heals.
July 6, 2008
Brian Barton has been placed on the 15-day DL due to a hand injury, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The move allowed the team to activate Cesar Izturis from the DL, who returned to today's lineup against the Cubs.

Our View:Barton held little to no fantasy value as he was hitting .246 with two homers and 11 RBI over 122 at-bats prior to being shelved.
June 24, 2008
The St. Louis Cardinals managed to post 14 total hits in support of the 8-4 win over Detroit in interleague play this evening, led by the effort of rookie outfielder Brian Barton . Barton went 2-for-3 at the dish with his seventh double and second home run of the season, totaling two RBIs and one run scored on the night.

Our View:Barton has struggled at the plate thus far but now carries four hits over his last eight at-bats, including three RBI earned along the way.
April 22, 2008
Brian Barton is likely to start in the Cardinals' outfield today, according to MLB.com. The team will battle lefty Manny Parra and the Brewers. Barton commented, "When I get an opportunity, I have to do my job. You never know when your next opportunity is going to be."

Our View:Barton only has two RBI over 16 games, but has 10 hits over 29 at-bats.
April 11, 2008
Brian Barton will likely start (over Skip Schumaker) in the Cardinals' outfield tonight against Giants' lefty Barry Zito, according to MLB.com. Barton is hitting well right now as he holds a .417 average over 12 at-bats, but he is yet to notch an RBI.
April 7, 2008
Brian Barton started his third straight game on Sunday and went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run. All three starts came against lefties, and Barton was once again replaced by Skip Schumaker before the day was out. "Baby steps defensively," manager Tony La Russa explains to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "Next time he gets out there, maybe he (goes) seven and by the middle of the season, he’s playing nine innings. I think he’s done very well." Schumaker is expected to receive most of the starts in the week ahead.
April 4, 2008
Brian Barton was 2-for-4 with a run scored Friday in his first career start. He played left field and batted leadoff for the Cards. The Rule 5 pick has three hits in six at-bats this year and should start getting more playing time against lefties.
March 26, 2008
Brian Barton has been informed that he will make the 25-man roster, but manager Tony La Russa has yet to make it official. "I’m not going to shake your hand until Monday," La Russa told Barton, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The former Indians prospect will enter the year as a backup but has the skills to potentially help out NL-only fantasy squads.
March 19, 2008
Brian Barton is batting second for the Cardinals again today against left-hander Adam Loewen. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch notes that Barton has been in the spot against lefties often this spring, and he could be the favorite to start there against southpaws during the regular season. The Rule 5 pick has pretty much already sewn up a roster spot with a phenomenal spring (.349-2-8), and he is worth a late-round flyer in NL-only play.
March 9, 2008
Brian Barton had another strong day at the plate as he fights to earn a roster spot with the Cardinals. He picked up his second triple of the spring on Sunday and collected two RBI, giving him four.
March 5, 2008
Brian Barton, hoping to force his way onto the roster with a big spring, had a huge game on Wednesday as he went 4-for-5 with a HR. Ryan Ludwick, battling Barton for a reserve role, also had a nice day with three hits and a HR. The Cardinals will go with Rick Ankiel and Chris Duncan in the OF, but after that it's a battle between Barton, Ludwick and Colby Rasmus for the third starting spot.
March 2, 2008
Brian Barton was 0-for-4 at the plate Sunday and is now hitless in eight at-bats against major league competition this spring. He did go 2-for-2 with a homer against St. Louis University last week. A Rule 5 pick, Barton is trying to win a reserve job with the Cards. They could use his right-handed bat in the outfield, but he'll have to pick it up.
February 26, 2008
Brian Barton left the Cardinals' spring training facility Tuesday morning to have his surgically repaired right knee examined, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Manager Tony La Russa said that Barton has felt "restricted." Barton's a Rule 5 pick, so he'll have to remain on the Cards' roster all season or the Cards will have to offer him back to the Indians. He could, however, spend some time on the DL or a rehab assignment while recovering from his offseason surgery.
