Randor Bierd, on the DL with a shoulder impingement, will begin a throwing program on Monday, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:The Rule 5 pick was pitching great before his injury. The O's have no need to rush him back, so expect the team to take it slow with him.

The Orioles placed Randor Bierd on the DL Friday with a shoulder impingement. The Rule 5 pick boasts a 2.03 ERA in nine games this year. Lance Cormier had his contract purchased from Triple-A Norfolk to replace him on the roster.

Our View:Bierd has pretty much already earned a roster spot for the entire season. It's not clear when he'll ready for activation.

Randor Bierd will be given every chance to make the opening day roster, and he helped his odds Tuesday with his work in an intrasquad game, according to the Baltimore Sun. The right-hander got out of a fifth inning, second-and-third jam with no outs without allowing a run. The game was tied at the time. A Rule 5 pick, Bierd has never pitched above Double-A, but the Orioles are going nowhere and might as well do what they can to try and keep his arm in the organization.
