Player Notes
July 3, 2008
John Lannan allowed three runs on five hits, walked three and struck out three over six innings in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Reds. Lannan wasn't involved in the decision after exiting with the game tied 3-3.

Our View:The rookie left-hander has had an up and down season. His 4-9 record isn't an indicator of how well he has pitched at times. His 3.54 ERA and 1.31 WHIP are.
July 3, 2008
Could Thursday be the night John Lannan earns a W? Lannan is 0-5 in his seven starts despite posting a 3.73 ERA in the span. He faces a Cincinnati team to which he has never lost.

Our View:Lannan is 4-9 with a 3.54 ERA on the year. He could be a very good fantasy pitcher on a team that could score runs for him.

The Nationals will ask John Lannan to cover the duties on the mound this evening as they face the Washington Nationals, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Lannan has surrendered three runs or less in his last six starts, giving up two in each of his last five outings, but does not have much to show for it, posting an 0-4 mark over that span. Washington has given Lannan just four runs of support in his last six starts. Lannan, who is 4-8 with a 3.34 ERA on the season, received a no-decision on Sunday against the Texas Rangers, as he allowed two runs and four hits in six innings of his team's 5-3 loss.

John Lannan's CT scan revealed no serious problem in his bruised right wrist, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:The test was negative, so Lannan should be able to make his next scheduled start on Saturday against Baltimore. He is being treated for a soft-tissue contusion. Lannan is only 4-8 over 15 starts but holds a decent 3.34 ERA and 1.29 WHIP.
June 22, 2008
John Lannan held the Rangers to just two runs over six innings against the Rangers during which time he struck out six batters and didn't walk a sole.

Our View:The only two runs that scored were on two solo home runs by Brandon Boggs and Ian Kinsler. Lannan has only four victories despite a 3.34 ERA in 15 starts, a testament to how little the offense has done in support of his solid work on the hill.
