The Red Sox pulled Clay Buchholz from the PawSox game Monday night after the right-hander pitched five scoreless innings, and according to the Boston Globe they believe there is a reason. Buchholz appears return to the Sox rotation, possibly as soon as Saturday against division rival New York in the Bronx.

Our View:Buchholz is 4-1 with a 1.63 ERA in eight starts. In his last four starts, he is 4-0 with a 0.40 ERA, allowing a single earned run in 22.2 innings. Justin Masterson is 4-2 with a 3.75 ERA in eight starts but has walked nine batters over 12 innings in his last two starts. Manager Terry Francona is concerned about how many innings his 23-year-old has thrown professionally.

Clay Buchholz is working to improve his arm slot and the consistency with his fastball. The right-hander worked three innings (73 pitches) on Monday night and focused on throwing his heater. "He can be special," manager Terry Francona informs The Providence Journal. "He's healthy. He has a few things we would like him to work on. He can get frustrated, but we're not frustrated."

Our View:It's always interesting to see how young pitchers react when they run into major league trouble after cruising through the minors. This is a tough period for Buchholz and his fantasy owners, but we continue to have some faith in the talented youngster.

Clay Buchholz has been activated from the DL, and optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket, where he had been on a rehab assignment, according to the AP. Buchholz was placed on the disabled list back on May 14 with a torn nail on his right middle finger.

Our View:Manager Terry Francona said he wanted Buchholz to work on his command, fastball consistency and his arm slot while in Triple-A. He was 2-3 over eight starts with Boston this season, with a 5.53 ERA and poor 1.63 WHIP.

Clay Buchholz is scheduled for his next rehab start on Friday, according to the Boston Globe. Manager Terry Francona would not comment on his progression, but said he won't likely be headed to the bullpen, and there may be a spot in the rotation when he is healthy enough to return to Boston. Francona said, "Working on a little bit of getting away from his head to try to create some movement with his fastball. He had that arm slot when he signed. Just trying to get some consistency with that. Take advantage of these innings when he's not here. But he sounded real upbeat."

Our View:Buchholz threw four innings plus one batter on Sunday for Triple-A Pawtucket in his first rehab start since landing on the DL with a broken nail on his right middle finger. He gave up one run on three hits and two walks.
