The AP reports that Evan Longoria will take 20 to 40 swings on Saturday. Longoria has been out since Aug. 11 with a fractured wrist and the Rays want him to take two or three days of regular batting practice before activating him off the DL.

Our View:Manager Joe Maddon has said that he will not be rushed back, but the Rays cannot allow the Red Sox to make up any more ground. Don't be surprised if Longoria is in the lineup after this weekend.

Recent reports said that Rays rookie Evan Longoria could be ready soon but today the Rays say there is no definite time table for Longoria's return. Manager Joe Maddon said he isn't sure when he will. Maddon said Longoria would need at least two to three days after a batting practice session (without discomfort) before getting back in the lineup, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Our View:The Rays were hoping to get Longoria back this next week when they take on the second-place Red Sox but that is looking like it won't happen. We will keep you up to date on Longoria's status as we get news.

Evan Longoria, who is recovering from a fractured right wrist, could possibly return to the Rays as soon as this weekend, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Manager Joe Maddon is optimistic but admitted that he still isn't sure as Longoria is yet to take batting practice.

Our View:We will keep you posted on the rookie's status. He should remain stashed on fantasy rosters.

Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said he wouldn't count on Evan Longoria returning in time for the Yankees s eries, starting next Tuesday, according to the St. Petersburgh Times. The All-Star third baseman has been rehabbing a fractured right wrist; he threw again Saturday afternoon and has been swinging with a broomstick, but Maddon doesn't know if Longoria will be ready to go for the rest of the homestand. "I would say probably not - it doesn't look really hopeful," Maddon said. "I wouldn't count on it. I'm not saying it won't happen, but I won't count on it."

Our View:When Longoria was placed on the disabled list Aug 11 after getting hit by a pitch in the Seattle series, the Rays intially estimated he could return on or around September 1st. But Maddon said Longoria would probably have to do live batting practice at least two to three days before he plays in an actual game, and the Rays haven't discussed that part of his progression.

Rays' executive VP Andrew Friedman believes Evan Longoria is progressing favorably from his fractured right wrist, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Friedman added, "He's going to work his way back into baseball activities."

Our View:The team should have a better idea within a week as to when he can return.
