Player Notes
August 25, 2008
Eddie Guardado has been traded from the Rangers to the Twins in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Mark Hamburger, according to the Dallas Morning News. To take Guardado's spot on the 25- and 40-man rosters, the Rangers have purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher Bill White from Triple-A Oklahoma.

Our View:Guardado should provide solid depth to the Twins' bullpen, but isn't going to push Joe Nathan for saves.
August 6, 2008
Eddie Guardado will inherit the closer's job with the Rangers while C.J. Wilson recovers from bone spurs in his left elbow on the DL, according to the AP.

Our View:Guardado earned a save on Tuesday night, which was his third of the season. He holds a 3.02 ERA over 44.2 innings, but maintains a solid 0.96 WHIP and has not surrendered a run in eight straight appearances. He only has 26 strikeouts, but is worth employing as a closer if your roto-club is desperate for saves right now.
August 5, 2008
Eddie Guardado shut the door in the ninth inning for the Rangers on Tuesday night, and he earned his third save. The struggling C.J. Wilson worked the seventh inning and allowed four runs.

Our View:The reports leading up to this game had been a little conflicting, but it's fairly clear now that Guardado has the closer's job, at least in the short term.
August 5, 2008
Eddie Guardado has assumed the role of "interim closer" while C.J. Wilson works out mechanical issues, MLB.com reports. "Whenever the phone rings, I'm ready to go," Guardado says. "I can't control what the manager and front office does. When the phone rings, I'm ready."

Our View:This news contradicts previous reports that the Rangers were sticking with Wilson. Guardado probably isn't available in AL-only leagues at this point, but he is worth exploring in larger mixed leagues. This report did not indicate if there was a timetable for Wilson returning to his role.
July 10, 2008
In a game with 21 runs scored, Eddie Guardado was one of the few hurlers who appeared who escaped unscathed as he worked a scoreless eighth inning on Thursday night.

Our View:Guardado lowered his ERA to 2.73 with this effort as he hasn't allowed a run over 12 appearances spanning 11.2 innings. C.J. Wilson is still the Rangers closer, but if he has a hiccup, Guardado appears ready to pounce.
