Player Notes
July 1, 2008
Luke Hochevar was rocked for six earned runs on six hits over six innings in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to Baltimore, with three walks and two strikeouts.

Our View:He falls to 5-6 for the season, with a 4.91 ERA. This ended a fairly solid run for Hochevar, as he was 2-0 over his previous five starts, while only allowing two earned runs in three of those outings.
June 25, 2008
Luke Hochevar retired 10 batters in a row in one stretch and finished up a solid eight innings allowing the Rockies just two runs on his way to his fifth victory. Joakim Soria worked a perfect ninth for his 21st save.

Our View:This is the third time in four starts that Hochevar has permitted just two earned runs, a run of success that has whispers of him heading back to the minors all but gone.
June 20, 2008
Luke Hochevar lasted just 4.2 innings against the Giants as he was pulled after allowing nine hits, two walks and four runs with zero punchouts.

Our View:Hochevar has a bright future but he continues to allow well over a hit per IP and that just isn't a recipe for success. He could find himself demoted to build some confidence and refine his control, though what do the Royals really have to lose by running him out there every fifth game?
June 14, 2008
Kansas City RHP Luke Hochevar put a decent effort forth in support of his team's big offensive surge as the Royals pulled the 12-3 win over Arizona. Hochevar pitched seven innings to allowing three runs (two earned) on 10 hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

Our View:Hochevar now sits at 4-5 on the season and is as inconsistent as any starter you might find on a roster today. He has the arm to do work, evidenced by his performance tonight. He needs to make it happen again in five days.
June 9, 2008
Luke Hochevar pitched well on Monday, despite leaving with a no decision in a 3-2 win over the Yankees. He only allowed two runs on four hits over six innings, with no walks and four strikeouts. Both of the runs came on an A-Rod homer.

Our View:He has been suffering through control issues this season, and this was his first outing that he didn't issue a walk. This should help in his bid to ward off a demotion to the minors.
