Catcher Matt Tupman has been optioned back to Triple-A Omaha, according to MLB.com. John Buck returned from emergency leave, and Tupman is no longer needed for depth.

Our View:Tupman registered a single on his only at-bat during his brief stint with the Royals.

Matt Tupman has been recalled from Triple-A Omaha, according to the AP. He was brought in to cover John Buck's spot on the roster, who was given three days of bereavement leave because of health concerns for his wife, Brooke, after giving birth to twins.

Our View:Tupman will provide depth during his brief stint with the team, but won't likely see much action. Miguel Olivo will start at catcher while Buck is away.

With Paul Phillips being designated for assignment, Matt Tupman is the leading candidate to be John Buck's backup behind the plate next season. "It's safe to say that we view Tupman as a better option for us right now," GM Dayton Moore told the Kansas City Star. "...because that's what we chose to do. He's a left-handed bat, and he complements Buck a little better right now. But he does have options, and it's safe to say that we're still looking to improve behind the plate."
