Rocky Cherry was traded to the Orioles Friday as part of the deal for Steve Trachsel. Cherry posted a 3.00 ERA in 12 games with the Cubs. He was pitching at Triple-A Iowa, where he held a 4.59 ERA with 56 Ks in 51 innings.

The Cubs optioned Rocky Cherry to Triple-A Iowa after Thursday's game. He worked 2 1/3 scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 3.00, but the Cubs needed to clear a roser spot for Kerry Wood, who will be activated on Friday.

The Triple-A Iowa closer has a 4.49 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and struck out 10 batters in 8.2 innings for Iowa this season. Ronny Cedeno or Felix Pie could be sent down to clear a roster spot for the reliever.
