Mike Hampton gave up four runs, three earned, for Single-A Rome on Monday night in his third rehab outing, according to MILB.com. Hampton struck out five and didn't allow a walk in the 59-pitch outing but he allowed eight hits

Our View:The best news is that he didn't injure himself signing an autograph of pouring a glass of water from the cooler. Hampton hopes to return around the All-Star break, but we'll believe it when we see it.
June 25, 2008
Mike Hampton had a successful outing allowing two hits and striking out two batters in 2.2 innings of work with the Gulf Coast League Braves before reaching his 45-pitch limit, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Our View:Hampton is still scheduled to make three more starts before the Braves will consider adding him to the roster, but given that he is injured about as often as most people take a shower, don't count on Hampton to make much of an impact even if he does make it back to Atlanta.
June 24, 2008
Mike Hampton will likely need four or five more rehab starts before he can return to Atlanta, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View:He has been on the DL all season long due to his pectoral injury, and hasn't pitched in the majors in nearly three years. If he doesn't suffer another setback, he could return to the Braves around the All-Star break.
June 21, 2008
Mike Hampton, recovering from a strained left pectoral, made his first rehab start on Saturday with the Single-A Gulf Coast, allowing one hit while striking out two in three innings. He threw 30 pitches in the outing and reported no discomfort afterward, according to MLB.com. "I'm very pleased," GM Frank Wren said. "He's happy and there was no pain. He feels very good going through this process."

Our View:Hampton will make another rehab start for Gulf Coast on Wednesday and will need at least four more rehab starts before joining the Braves rotation. He hopes to be back around the All-Star break, but we'll believe it only when the lefty physically toes a major league rubber.
June 21, 2008
Mike Hampton will throw a second simulated game at the Braves' complex in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, according to MLB.com.

Our View:If Hampton feels no pain in his strained left pectoral muscle, Hampton could begin a Minor League rehab assignment next week. He hasn't appeared in the majors since 2005.
June 18, 2008
Mike Hampton tossed 50 pitches over two simulated innings on Tuesday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He has been out since straining his left pectoral muscle prior to his first start of the major league season. Hampton will throw once more before possibly beginning a minor league rehab assignment.

Our View:The Braves should be sure to encase Hampton in bubble wrap between outings. The southpaw hasn't been seen in the majors since 2005, so we're not going to get too excited about this latest step.
June 16, 2008
Mike Hampton is headed to the Braves complex in Orlando where he is scheduled to make two starts for the rookie league Gulf Coast Braves, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Our View:If these two outings go well, Hampton would then be sent to higher minor league levels to continue to rehab his injured pectoral muscle. Of course, he could injure himself picking up the phone or answering an email, so it would behoove you to take a wait and see approach.
June 13, 2008
Mike Hampton, who is recovering from a strained left pectoral, is set to pitch to Braves' hitters today (in Anaheim), in either batting practice or in a simulated game, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View:This is yet another step in his comeback bid. He hasn't faced hitters in five weeks since reinjuring his pectoral muscle, and hasn't pitched in the majors in 34 months.
June 3, 2008
Atlanta LHP Mike Hampton threw off a mound today, the first time he's tossed off the hill since the Braves removed him from the lineup before a planned start on April 3rd, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Hampton took part in a bullpen session today and reports he feels no immediate pain or discomfort as a result of the 25 pitches thrown. The hurler has been on the DL since April 3rd with a strained left pectoral muscle, but the team now believes he could return to the starting rotation before the July All-Star break.
May 2, 2008
MLB.com reports that those who predicted that Mike Hampton wouldn't throw a pitch for the Braves this season are moving closer to being correct. When Hampton exited Wednesday afternoon's Minor League rehab start with Triple-A Richmond because of more discomfort in his left pectoral muscle, the Braves knew the news wasn't good. After they had a chance to talk to the 35-year-old hurler, they came to understand that his exit wasn't simply a precautionary action. "I did it worse than before," said Hampton, who originally strained the left pectoral muscle approximately 10 minutes before making his scheduled April 3 start against the Pirates. "I don't know what kind of timetable there is for this. All I know is it's pretty bad."

Our View:Those still waiting for Hampton to return, can stop waiting.
April 30, 2008
Mike Hampton was forced to leave Wednesday afternoon's minor league rehab start after feeling more pain in his strained left pectoral muscle, according to MLB.com. Hampton called toward the dugout in the fourth inning, prompting Triple-A Richmond manager Dave Brundage and trainer Mike Grauss to visit the mound. A few moments later, Hampton left the game and put his return to the Majors in even further doubt. Braves' GM Frank Wren stated, "He was throwing good and then he just started feeling it during those last three pitches. He just thought it was best to come out."

Our View:Hampton remains damaged goods as a fantasy prospect, and isn't worth waiting for.
April 26, 2008
Braves' left-hander Mike Hampton (strained left pectoral muscle) allowed three hits in three scoreless innings in a rehab start for Triple-A Richmond. Hampton threw 50 pitches in the effort.

Our View:Hampton still doesn't have a timetable for his return to the 25-man active roster, but his performance is encouraging.
April 22, 2008
With a successful bullpen session on Tuesday evening in the books, LHP Mike Hampton feels he may be ready for minor-league rehab starts, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Hampton strained his left pectoral muscle less than 10 minutes before making his scheduled debut on April 3rd, a definitive setback for the lefty who has not pitched in the MLB since August of 2005. Hampton notes he is not throwing his full menu of pitches and has work to do to be completely comfortable with his arm, but the veteran hurler is anxious to get back on the mound and working in meaningful innings for the Braves. The Braves have yet to announce their plans for Hampton moving forward.
April 19, 2008
Mike Hampton had another successful bullpen session on Saturday as he continues to try and work his way back onto the mound, this according to MLB.com. "It went pretty well -- I threw just breaking balls this time," said Hampton. "I didn't feel anything bite me. Mentally, I'm a little tentative, maybe, trying to feel my way through it."

Our View:You know just far a guy has fallen when a 50-pitch bullpen outing generates so much interest. Hampton will throw another session on Tuesday, and if that goes well he will likely be sent out on a minor league rehab assignment.
April 16, 2008
Mike Hampton had a successful session of throwing batting practice on Wednesday as he threw 40 pitches without incident, this according to the AP. “I felt pretty good,” Hampton said. “I didn’t let anything go very hard, but it was a good step.”

Our View:Hampton hasn't thrown in a game in about three years, and given that just about every body part of his has broken the past couple of seasons, there is no reason to pay him any attention until he at least throws a pitch that counts.
April 16, 2008
Mike Hampton will test his ailing left pectoral muscle when he throws a bullpen session on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. He will likely need to complete multiple side sessions before the team would possibly be comfortable enough to send him out on a rehab assignment.

Our View:Hampton remains damaged goods as a fantasy prospect.
April 11, 2008
Mike Hampton threw 40-50 pitches on the side on Friday in his attempt to return from a strained pectoral muscle, this according to the AP. “It’s not 100 percent. We’ll see how it progresses,” Hampton said. “I’ll probably try that again on Sunday. If that goes well, I’ll probably increase it and see how it goes.” Hampton hasn't pitched in a game since 2005, so as much as we are rooting for the guy, there isn't one single fantasy team he should currently be on even in a DL spot.
April 8, 2008
It will likely be a few days before Mike Hampton can beging throwing again due to his strained left pectoral ailment, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Hampton commented, "It feels a little better every day. I still feel it strain some. Just treatment so far. I'll see how it feels the next couple of days before I see when to start throwing again." Hampton remains damaged goods as a fantasy prospect.
April 4, 2008
The Braves placed Mike Hampton on the 15-day disabled list on Friday and called up Jo-Jo Reyes from Triple-A Richmond. Hampton was scratched from his Thursday start due to a strained left pectoral muscle. Reyes is a temporary fill-in until Chuck James is called upon to fill Hampton's rotation spot.
April 3, 2008
The strained pectoral that made Mike Hampton a scratch from his start Thursday will force him to go on the DL, according to the AP. "It's the toughest thing I've had to deal with," Hampton said. "Having to step off the mound and say 'I just don't want to do it,' it's definitely a tough pill to swallow." The Braves will recall Jo-Jo Reyes from Triple-A Richmond, and the left-hander will be available for Friday's game. Manager Bobby Cox plans on activating Chuck James from the DL to take Hampton's spot in the rotation. This is a tough break for Hampton, but is anyone really surprised?
April 3, 2008
It was a strained pectoral that kept Mike Hampton from making his scheduled start Friday, according to Sports Network. The lefty was supposed to take the mound for the first time since August of 2005, but he felt a twinge in his pectoral while warming up before the game. Hampton is being listed as day-to-day, but given his injury history, we wouldn't be surprised if a DL stint is needed.
April 3, 2008
Mike Hampton was scratched from his scheduled start Thursday after feeling discomfort during his warmup session, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It's not clear at this point which area was giving the lefty trouble, but we'll pass along more info when it becomes available. Jeff Bennett is starting in his place.
April 3, 2008
Mike Hampton is set to make his first start in nearly two years (August 19, 2005) on Thursday, according to the Sports Network. Hampton missed the past two seasons after undergoing several elbow operations, and went 5-3 with a 3.50 ERA in 12 starts during the 2005 season. Hampton had a favorable spring training and it is nice to see him return to action against the Pirates tonight.
March 29, 2008
Pitcher Mike Hampton has nearly completed his return to major league baseball, according to MLB.com. Hampton threw off a major-league mound to hitters for the Cleveland Indians, working three innings in Atlanta's 5-4 spring victory today. The first true action Hampton has seen since August of 2005, the lefty allowed one run on four hits with no walks and two strike outs. While Hampton has enjoyed a strong spring, posting an ERA of 2.16 through 16 2/3 innings, his final test will come on Thursday when Hampton gets the start against Pittsburgh.
March 23, 2008
The sweet results of success couldn't come at a better time for the upstart Atlanta Braves, or for Mike Hampton . Coming back from two elbow injuries, the left-hander worded six strong innings allowing two runs to beat the Houston Astros 4-2. Hampton struck out four and walked two during his six innings of work making him, once again, fantasy relevant. Hampton is expected to follow Tim Hudson, John Smoltz and Tom Glavine in the rotation. Jair Jurrjens, Chuck James and Jeff Bennett are competing for the fifth starter's job.
March 22, 2008
Mike Hampton is scheduled to pitch six innings when he faces the Astros at Disney's Champion Stadium on Sunday. Hampton's outing will go a long way in determining whether the left-hander will be ready for opening day. A healthy Hampton is fantasy worthy.
March 17, 2008
Mike Hampton pitched well against the Cardinals on Monday as he only allowed one run on two hits over 4.1 innings of work. His comeback is right on track.
March 13, 2008
Mike Hampton's comeback is back on the track. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution the oft-injured veteran left-hander had no problems with his groin during a four-inning simulated game against Braves hitters Wednesday. Barring any setbacks (and "any" is an appropriate word in context with Hampton), the Braves southpaw is expected to make his next scheduled start Monday against the Cardinals.
March 12, 2008
Mike Hampton had a four-inning simulated game against Braves hitters Wednesday and didn't go through any problems with his groin or anything else, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I'm looking forward to pitching and enjoying my next start," said Hampton, who strained his right groin Friday. "I didn't have any tweaks [Wednesday], nothing going on." The lefty, who is attempting a comeback after missing 2 1/2 seasons while recovering from two elbow surgeries, is expected to make his next scheduled start on Monday. Hampton hopes to be ready to go at the beginning of the season, but you certainly don't need to write his name down in ink for the Braves rotation.
March 10, 2008
Mike Hampton is determined to keep his schedule, according to MLB.com. He will pitch Wednesday. How he feels on Tuesday will determine whether it is an exhibition game or a simulated game. He pitched a 10 minute bullpen session on Monday and felt discomfort in the groin he strained Friday, but he is still optimistic he will begin the regular season in the Braves' starting rotation. Hampton has a long history of ailments and notably hasn't pitched in a regular season game since August 19,2005.
March 9, 2008
ESPN.com reports that a day after leaving a spring training start with a strained right groin, Braves pitcher Mike Hampton said he was 'OK". The Braves' left-hander said he doesn't expect to miss his next start and plans to throw again Monday. To those owners that were beginning to get excited about his return to the mound after a two-year absence, consider this a reminder that Hampton is made of glass.
March 8, 2008
Mike Hampton was able to ride a stationary bike for 45 minutes and climbed two sets of stairs Saturday without any visible discomfort in his strained groin, according to MLB.com. "I'll say I'm cautiously optimistic to make my next start, because I don't want [the groin injury] to be something that lingers on," said Hampton. Considering all he did today, it seems like the injury must be relatively minor. But like Hampton suggested, he'll need to keep from making it worse in the coming days.
March 7, 2008
Mike Hampton was unable to complete his outing against the Tigers on Friday due to a strained groin, according to SportsTicker. Hampton missed all of last season following Tommy John surgery, so hopefully this ailment won't keep him off the mound for long. At this point, the Braves dubbed it a mild strain and list him as day-to-day.
March 2, 2008
Mike Hampton held the Astros to one hit over two scoreless innings during Sunday's exihibition game. 15 of his 22 pitches were for strikes, and his sinker was clocked at its typical range around 90 mph, according to the MLB.com. Hampton's missed the past two seasons due to elbow injuries, and this actually was his first action against a big league team since Aug. 19, 2005. So far, so good for 2008.
February 15, 2008
Mike Hampton, who threw live batting practice during the Braves' first workout for pitchers and catchers at Champion Stadium on Friday morning, was wearing a smile after successfully completing the workout without incident, according to the team's official website. Hampton has missed part or all of the past two seasons recovering from separate left elbow surgeries. "This was a big step for me," Hampton said. "Every step I take from here on out is going to prepare me to start the season." The good news is that Hampton's elbow hasn't provided any recent problems. However, there's still some concern about the hamstring that he strained in November while pitching the first inning of his first start in the Mexican Winter League. Hampton is currently projected to be ready for opening day, and be a member of the starting rotation. The jury is still out on where he's at after two seasons of R&R. Atlanta's Spring Training box scores will be watched closely in March.
February 10, 2008
Mike Hampton thinks this might finally be the year that he is able to avoid the DL and earn his paycheck after being limited to just 69.1 innings last season. "My arm does feel better," Hampton said. "When I throw, the pain I had that [last year] — we thought we knew what it was but it wasn't — is not there." As for his hamstring? "There's still some tightness but not much soreness," Hampton said. "It doesn't limit me off the mound." Hampton is nothing more than a late flier in fantasy league's this season considering he has posted an ERA below 4.00 in more than 150 innings only once since 2001. Leave him on waivers and monitor his progress. Atlanta Journal Constitution
