Garrett Olson will miss his next start due to left forearm tightness. "We'll take the course of being conservative and cautious," Orioles manager Dave Trembley said, according to the Baltimore Sun. "I just think it's best he doesn't make his next start." Trembley said he likely would choose between relievers Rob Bell, Kurt Birkins and Brian Burres to replace Olson next week. The injury isn't serious, but the O's are going to take it easy with their rookie. Hopefully, he will be ready to take the mound soon.

The Orioles optioned Garrett Olson to Bluefield, the team's rookie-level club, Thursday and recalled right-hander Jim Johnson from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday. The team can get call Olson back up quicker by sending him to Bluefield than if he went to Triple-A Norfolk, as Bluefield's season ends in less than 10 days.

The Orioles called up Garrett Olson from the minors on Friday. He's expected to start on Saturday in place of Brian Burrs, who pitched two innings of relief on Thursday. If Olson pitches well, it's possible he could stick in the rotation long term.

August 3, 2007
Orioles manager Dave Trembley is considering calling up Garrett Olson to join the starting rotation, according to the Baltimore Sun. If that happens, Brian Burress would likely be sent to the bullpen. In two starts with Baltimore this year, Olson holds a 3.86 ERA.

Garrett Olson will remain in the O's rotation following the break, making a start Sunday against the White Sox. "I didn't know exactly what they wanted or expected of me after the All-Star break," Olson told the Baltimore Sun. "I figured there was a chance, coming here or going back [to Triple-A Norfolk]. It was nice to hear the news." He made his debut against them last week, allowing two runs over 4 1/3 innings. He'll probably head back down to the minors once Steve Trachsel returns to action.

Garrett Olson had a so-so debut at Chicago Wednesday, allowing two runs over 4 1/3 innings. Olson was lucky the damage wasn't greater, given that he permitted 10 baserunners (five hits, five walks) during his stint. He struck out four.

Garrett Olson will be called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday and make his first major league start in place of the injured Steve Trachsel, the AP reports. Interim manager Dave Trembley said the club considered promoting Olson, who is 7-6 with a 3.46 ERA at Norfolk, earlier. "We feel he deserved a chance," Trembley said. Olson offers strikeout potential, with 94 whiffs (against 31 walks) in his 104 innings at Triple-A this year.
