September 28, 2008
Mark Reynolds struck out twice on Sunday to extend his major league record to 204 for the season.

Our View:Reynolds also committed an error in the game giving him 35 on the year.
September 25, 2008
Diamondbacks third baseman Mark Reynolds has set a new record, according to DBacks.com. With his second inning strikeout in St. Louis on Thursday, he has become the first person in the long history of major league baseball to strike out 200 times in one season.

Our View:Congratualtions must go out to Reynolds for accomplishing this historic feat. The team has a few more games left, so it is likely he will fan at least a few more times this season.
September 24, 2008
Mark Reynolds struck out for the 199th time and made is 34th error of the season in the Diamondbacks 2-4 loss in St. Louis on Wednesday.

Our View:Sure he's got 28 home runs and 94 RBI, but Reynolds is one of the biggest defensive liabilities in the game. He will have to find his way over to the AL if he hopes to prolong his career.
September 16, 2008
Arizona's Mark Reynolds is nearing the dubious distinction of becoming the first player in the history of baseball to strikeout 200 times - that is, unless Ryan Howard does it first, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View:Howard currently has 190 strikeouts to Reynolds' 187. The all-time record is 199, set by Howard. It seems quite possible that both could end up flying past the mark this year.

Mark Reynolds has been taking ground balls at second base during batting practice, according to DBacks.com. Outfielder Justin Upton will make his return soon, and to get the best offense on the field, it could lead Reynolds to second, Chad Tracy to third and Adam Dunn to first.

Our View:Reynolds owners should be happy to hear this news, as he would soon become eligible to play second in fantasy leagues. Which means Reynolds could be replacing a hitter who does not have much power (outside of the Chase Utley's of the world, of course). That would open up rosters for adding another third baseman with the potential for more long balls.
August 12, 2008
The move of Adam Dunn from Cincinnati to Arizona could turn Mark Reynolds into a second baseman. The season-ending wrist injury to Orlando Hudson and the addition of Dunn will shuffle the Diamondbacks lineup. Justin Upton is nearing a return from the disabled list, which will force the hand of the coaching staff.

Our View:If Upton returns to his starting spot in right field Dunn will have to find a place to play. That figures to be in left field or first base. Picture this: Dunn moves to left field, Conor Jackson skips across the diamond to first base, Chad Tracy crosses the pitching mound to third base and Mark Reynolds gets the start at second. Of course, Upton could lose his starting status and become a bench hitter and rover.
August 4, 2008
Diamondbacks third baseman Mark Reynolds had a big night in his team's victory over Pittsburgh, going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI.

Our View:Reynolds is a very streaky hitter, and he struggled in July and the beginning of August, so maybe this is the beginning of a hot streak.
July 31, 2008
Mark Reynolds had two hits on Wednesday including his 22nd long ball of the year for Arizona.

Our View:Reynolds already has 132 strike outs on the year in just 354 at-bats, and if not for the presence of Ryan Howard everyone would be talking about this king of whiff. He has enough power to stay in the lineup, but he must rectify his utter inability to make contact.
July 13, 2008
Mark Reynolds 0-for-4 with three strikeouts for the Diamondbacks today, and his average for the month of July is now under .200.

Our View:Reynolds is a very streaky hitter, and though he has good power numbers, his average being under .250 hurts those who have him on their fantasy squad.
July 11, 2008
Mark Reynolds was held out of the lineup on Friday. He made three (3) errors on Thursday.

Our View:Reynolds has committed a Major League-leading 19 errors this season. He has also struggled at the plate lately, hitting .143 (3-for-21) in his last seven games.
July 10, 2008
Mark Reynolds had one RBI on a night in which he made three errors in the field for the Diamondbacks.

Our View:Reynolds has committed 19 errors, and with 106 K in just 300 AB, there has to be some concern that his deficiencies are rendering his talents (18 HR, 54 RBI) somewhat moot. With Chad Tracy back and healthy, the team could make a move to add an outfielder which would force Conor Jackson back to first base and potentially send Tracy back to the position of filling in at both corners which could eat into Reynolds playing time.
July 3, 2008
The Arizona Republic reports that Mark Reynolds had an MRI performed on his left wrist yesterday after being hit by a line drive in the first inning. The MRI did not reveal a fracture.

Our View:Mark, buddy, use your glove to catch line drives, not your forearm. He could be back in the lineup as early as Thursday, but that's far from a guarantee.
July 2, 2008
Mark Reynolds has improved his eye this season. The D'Backs third baseman is hitting .262 and while he's still only walking once for every three strike outs, he has a much more consistent approach at the plate.

Our View:The trade off for the lack of walks and the high number of strike outs is Reynold's team leading 17 home runs.
June 21, 2008
Mark Reynolds had to leave Saturday's game in the seventh inning after he rolled his right ankle on a groundout to third, according to SportsTicker. Augie Ojeda replaced him in the field.

Our View:Reynolds didn't even attempt to run to first, so he must have sprained it pretty good. We'll update you on his status when more is known.
June 11, 2008
Mark Reynolds hit his 15th long ball of the year on Wednesday night, a 3-run shot off of Billy Wagner in the ninth inning.

Our View:Reynolds now has four home runs and six RBI in his last four games, and his overall production has him at .270-32-105 in 587 career AB, despite an incredible 206 strikeouts.
June 9, 2008
Mark Reynolds went 3-for-4 with a solo homer in Monday's 5-3 loss to Pittsburgh. His other two hits both went for doubles.

Our View:He has 14 homers and 40 RBI over 59 games. He now has three homers over his last two games, as he hit a pair last night in a 6-4 loss to the Pirates.
June 8, 2008
Mark Reynolds hit a pair of bombs in Sunday's 6-4 loss to Pittsburgh. The third baseman now has 13 dingers and 39 RBI on the year.

Our View:Reynolds has been an all-or-nothing player this year, with a .250 average and 70 strikeouts to go along with his 13 homers.
June 3, 2008
Arizona was struggling from the outset this evening, taking the 7-1 loss against the Milwaukee Brewers, but the finger of blame does not fall towards third baseman Mark Reynolds . Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a walk at the plate, the only Arizona batter with multiple hits, hitting his seventh double of the season to total one RBI on the night.

Our View:Reynolds hit just .235 for the month of May, but he appears to be headed in the right direction, going 9-for-20 over his last seven games.
May 31, 2008
Mark Reynolds went 2-for-3 with two RBI and blasted a pair of solo homers in Saturday's 4-0 win over Washington.

Our View:He is only hitting .240, but has 11 homers and 32 RBI over 51 games, with 38 runs scored. He was cold throughout May but closed out the month on a high note. Hopefully he can keep the momentum going through June.
May 29, 2008
The Arizona Diamondbacks suffered a horrendous 11-3 loss to the San Francisco Giants this evening, though third baseman Mark Reynolds tried to keep the results a little less painful. Reynolds went 2-for-3 with a walk at the plate, hitting his ninth home run of the season to post one RBI and two runs scored.

Our View:Reynolds has struggled for offense, hitting just .200 for the month of May. This may get him headed in the right direction.
May 27, 2008
Chad Tracy is back in Arizona, but Mark Reynolds is safe at third base, according to the Arizona Republic. Manager Bob Melvin stated that Tracy will give the team "thunder off the bench" and called Reynolds "our third baseman." Melvin added, " We'll see how it goes. We'll see physically where we are from day to day. That's why I don't want to go out and say he'll get 'x' amount of at-bats. It's going to be a feel more than anything else."

Our View:Reynolds has cooled off following a fast start this season, and his average now stands at a meager .225, but he shouldn't be in jeopardy of losing his job to Tracy.
May 18, 2008
Mired in a terrible slump, he was just 1-for-21 entering Sunday, Mark Reynolds went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Our View:Reynolds also stole his fifth base, and other than a poor .233 average, the rest of his batting line looks quite strong for an after thought in most mixed leagues (seven home runs, 28 RBI and 28 runs scored).
May 8, 2008
Mark Reynolds had three hits on Thursday and he stole his fourth base for the D'backs.

Our View:Reynolds really needed a big day like this at the plate as his average has hit the skids the past week. Despite the obvious power production, Reynolds has also stolen four bases which is a great bonus.
May 4, 2008
Despite facing Johan Santana on Sunday, Mark Reynolds had one of his better days of the past two weeks. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI and just one whiff. Reynolds' last two-hit game came on April 20, and he'd struck out at least twice in nine of the previous 10 contests.

Our View:Reynolds is quickly staking his claim as the streakiest hitter in the majors. The guy is a stud when he's seeing the ball, but his down times are really, really awful. It's tough to take in head-to-head leagues, but roto formats allow for us to somewhat ignore the roller coaster.
May 3, 2008
Mark Reynolds had a tough day at the plate in Saturday's 10-4 win over the Mets, as he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, while leaving seven men on base.

Our View:Reynolds is only hitting .226 over 106 at-bats, with 42 strikeouts, but he should remain in your lineups with seven homers, 24 RBI, 23 runs, and three stolen bases over 28 games.
April 28, 2008
Mark Reynolds was 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run scored and added a stolen base in the D'backs 5-3 win over Houston on Monday night.

Our View:Reynolds has struck out 36 times in 94 at-bats, but his seven home runs, 24 RBI, 23 runs scored and three stolen bases make up for his sub par .253 batting average.
April 9, 2008
Mark Reynolds went 2-for-5 with three RBI in a 10-5 win over the Dodgers on Tuesday, and he notably collected his fifth home run of the season. He is off to a great start with a .344 average over 32 at-bats, but he needs to cut down on his strikeouts, which he has nine already.
April 7, 2008
Mark Reynolds launched two home runs on Monday night on his way to three RBI for the Diamondbacks. With Conor Jackson settling in at first base Reynolds will need to keep on hitting to avoid giving away AB to Chad Tracy when he returns from his knee injury. Reynolds certainly has pop with 21 HR in 393 career AB, but he also has 137 K and just 40 BB, and numbers like that will likely lead to a lowish batting average moving forward.
April 6, 2008
Mark Reynolds hit a two-run homer in the ninth and the Arizona Diamondbacks scored three runs in the 10th inning for a 5-2 win over Colorado. Reynolds, ignored in most mixed formats this March, has been solid in the first week of the season. He's hitting .304 with two home runs, six RBI and five runs scored.
April 1, 2008
Mark Reynolds had a tough day at the plate on Monday against Cincinnati, as he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts, while leaving three men on base. Hopefully he can bounce back and play up to his high potential.
March 11, 2008
Mark Reynolds served up a hot serving of baseball bat in the Diamondbacks' 7-8 loss to the Royals in Cactus League play today, going 2-for-3 with a double and a 2-run homer. Reynolds has been quiet in spring training this season and seems all set to fill the 3B job for Arizona this season. It would be nice if his bat would show more often coming down the stretch, but we'll see how he responds once these games count.
