Player Notes
June 26, 2008
Greg Smith suffered his sixth loss of the season at the hands of the Phillies on Wednesday as he allowed seven hits, two walks and four runs in 5.2 innings.

Our View:Smith continues to be quite the fantasy find with a 3.69 ERA overall, but in three of his last five outings he has permitted at least four runs to see his ERA go up nearly a full run from 2.84. Given that this is his first season, it wouldn't be at all surprising to see the slow regression continue.
June 19, 2008
Greg Smith allowed one run on three hits, walking three and striking out four over five innings of work. The former Diamondback threw only 87 pitches and was pulled in favor of Brad Ziegler to start the sixth inning.

Our View:Rajai Davis hit for Smith to lead off the top of the sixth innings. Had the pitchers order not come up -- it's likely that Smith would have still been in the game to pitch the bottom of the sixth.

Greg Smith suffered through his worst start of the season allowing seven runs on seven hits in five innings of work. The rookie wasn't involved in the decision as the A's scored nine-runs in the seventh inning for a 13-8 comeback win over the Rangers.

Our View:The rookie lost a run to his ERA on Sunday. He entered with a 2.84 number, but exited the contest with an ERA of 3.56.

Oakland rookie LHP Greg Smith showcased a ton of potential this evening in leading his team to a 3-1 victory over A.J. Burnett and the Toronto Blue Jays. Smith lasted 6 2/3 innings, failing to allow a single run on just six hits, posting just one walk and three strikeouts.

Our View:Smith now touts an impressive 2.84 ERA and needed this win, stopping a string of three consecutive losses through the month of May.

Greg Smith lost his second game of the season on Friday night, but not because he didn't pitch well. The rookie didn't throw a quality start, but allowed four runs on only four hits, walked two and struck out four in the 4-0 loss to the Rangers.

Our View:Smith has been impressive since replacing the injured Rich Harden, and it appears he will remain in the rotation.
May 4, 2008
Greg Smith didn't pick up a win on Sunday, but he was impressive nonetheless. The rookie struck out 10 Rangers over six innings. Smith allowed only three hits and one run but took a no-decision.

Our View:The southpaw continues to amaze. We didn't expect him to pitch so well in his first go through the league, but it looks like he's worth trusting in all fantasy formats.
April 29, 2008
Greg Smith was a tough luck loser Tuesday, giving up just two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out five over eight innings.

Our View:The youngster's ERA sits at 2.73 over five starts, as he's making a case to remain in the rotation even after Rich Harden returns.
April 24, 2008
Greg Smith had another strong outing on Thursday as he limited the Twins to just two runs over seven innings to pick up his second win. Smith has a sterling 2.88 ERA in four starts.

Our View:Smith has squarely placed himself amongst the best early season pick ups in AL Only leagues, and if he keeps this up much longer, he will have done the same thing in mixed leagues as well.
April 14, 2008
Greg Smith was excellent on Monday night. He held the White Sox to six hits and one run over seven innings and picked up his first major league win. The rookie walked one and struck out four.

Our View:Smith had a wildly effective showing in his first major league start, and he was better this time around. He is worth a look in AL-only leagues.

The Athletics purchased the contract of left-hander Greg Smith from Class AAA Sacramento on Wednesday, this according to Sports Network. Smith, 24, will make his major league debut tonight and face one of the better offenses, and right arms, Toronto's Dustin McGowan (0-0, 3.00). Smith was one of six players acquired in the trade that sent Dan Haren to Arizona this winter.

Greg Smith will be recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to make his major-league debut Wednesday. Smith, who came over from Arizona this offseason in the Dan Haren deal, gave up two runs in six innings in his first start of the year for Sacramento. He will be taking the place of Justin Duchscherer, who was placed on the DL. Smith is a decent prospect, but you should take a wait-and-see approach with him in fantasy.
