The Washington Times reports that Matt Chico will undergo reconstructive "Tommy John" surgery.

Our View:He will miss the rest of the season, which may be good news for the Nats. Chico was 0-6 with a 6.19 ERA this year.

Matt Chico's MRI results have shown loose bone fragments in his throwing elbow, according to the Washington Times.

Our View:He will be re-examined by team doctors, but could be facing surgery. He held no fantasy value, as he was 0-6 this season, with a 6.19 ERA and 1.67 WHIP.

The Nationals sent down pitcher Matt Chico on Friday, the Washington Post confirms.

Our View:The southpaw has been a big disappointment after a decent rookie campaign. He can still be a No. 4 or 5 guy for the Nats in the future, but we don't know that he'll ever have much fantasy value.

Updating an earlier report, Matt Chico will indeed replace an injured Shawn Hill to start the Nationals game on Wednesday, according to MLB.com.

Our View:This plan could still change if Chico is forced to come out of the pen to support Tim Redding on Monday night, but it appears that Chico should he ready to start against the Phillies, though that certainly doesn't mean you should have him in your starting lineup.

After Shawn Hill continued to experience discomfort in his pitching elbow during Friday's start, the Nationals believe the right-hander's turn in the rotation will be skipped, which is scheduled for Wednesday at home against Philadelphia, notes the Washington Post. "For the good of the kid, we're probably going to end up skipping him," Acta said. "We'll get together tomorrow and make that decision." Acta said left-hander Matt Chico , who was moved to the bullpen after starting the season 0-5 with a 6.87 ERA, is a candidate to start in Hill's place.

Our View:Asked if this was something Hill would have to deal with all season, Acta said: "There's a very good chance that that's going to be the situation because nothing has been found in the tests and he's going to have to pitch through pain." Owners should obviously bench Hill this week and hope he doesn't have to make another trip to the DL.

Nationals lefty Matt Chico made his first relief appearance in the major leagues, pitching two scoreless innings.

Our View:He made 31 starts last year and struggled through seven starts this season before being sent to the bullpen.
May 2, 2008
According to the Washington Times, the Nationals have flip-flopped their starting pitchers for the next two games. John Lannan will start tonight with Matt Chico starting in Game 2 of the three-game series against Pittsburgh tomorrow.

Our View:The switch gives Chico an extra day to prepare for what could be his last outing, if he doesn't perform better than he has. The left-hander is 0-5 with a 6.68 ERA.
April 21, 2008
Matt Chico was bombed for six runs in four innings to fall to 0-4 on the year. Chico permitted eight hits and three walks without a K on the night.

Our View:So much for a solid start to the season. Chico has now allowed 11 runs in his last nine innings, and should drift back to being nothing more than a spot starter in NL Only leagues.
April 16, 2008
Matt Chico picked up his third loss of the season on Wednesday as he allowed five runs in five innings to the Mets.

Our View:Chico allowed 10 base runners on the night, but the real issue was the three home runs he allowed on the night. Chico has now allowed five HR in four starts, and that is not a trend he would like to see continue.
April 11, 2008
Matt Chico picked up his second loss of the season on Friday night despite allowing just one run in eight innings for the Nationals. Chico was in total control all night needing just 91 pitches to get through eight, but his offense let him down as they failed to score a run. Chico still projects as nothing more than an NL Only play this season.
March 31, 2008
Matt Chico threw 5.1 innings of work on Monday allowing six hits, three runs, one walk and struck out four. Chico was issued a no-decision in the Nationals win over the Phillies.
March 26, 2008
Matt Chico had a tough outing from the hill against Atlanta on Wednesday as he allowed five runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings, with one walk and two strikeouts. The middle of the rotation starter falls to 1-2 with a 4.56 ERA.
March 21, 2008
Second year hurler Matt Chico was solid on Friday as he held the Mets without a run in 4.1 innings for the Nationals. Chico allowed six hits and one BB in the outing. Chico had a promising rookie season last year making 31 starts, but he simply must rectify a hideous 1.27 K/BB ratio before he is worthy of being anything other than a depth play in NL Only leagues.
