The Rangers have decided to shut Kason Gabbard down for the remainder of the year, according to the Dallas Morning News. He has been dealing with some soreness in his left forearm, and the club doesn't want to risk any further injury. "Maybe it's not such a bad thing," said Gabbard. "I've pitched more innings than ever before and if I can go up by 20 or so next year, I can get close to 200. I'm just not 100 percent and they don't want to take any chances."

Kason Gabbard, who was scratched from his last start with a blister on his thumb, said he felt good after a bullpen session Tuesday and is scheduled to start Friday in Oakland, according to the Dallas Morning News. Gabbard had been struggling even prior to the blister issue - 5.94 ERA in last three starts - so he's still a risky investment now that he's healthy.

Kason Gabbard skipped a throwing session on Tuesday but insisted he'll be ready to take his turn in the rotation Friday, the AP reports. Gabbard was forced to leave his last start in the second inning last Friday night due to left forearm stiffness. Gabbard has already had four arm surgeries during his career, so there was natural concern that the injury could be serious.

Kason Gabbard, acquired from Boston in the Eric Gagne deal on Tuesday, will start Thursday against Cleveland. "It's simple," manager Ron Washington said in the AP. "We traded for him to be in our rotation." Gabbard was 4-0 with a 3.73 ERA in seven starts for Boston. Gabbard replaces Jamey Wright in the rotation. Wright will work in long relief.

The Red Sox will recall Kason Gabbard in time to start Tuesday's game against the Mariners, according to the AP. Gabbard is 7-2 with a 3.24 ERA in 14 starts with Triple-A Pawtucket and beat Atlanta in a spot start on May 20. Boston manager Terry Francona said Gabbard will get at least one more start and that all starters will stay on schedule and get an extra day of rest because of an off day Thursday.

The Red Sox sent Kason Gabbard back down to Triple-A Pawtucket after his start Sunday. Called up earlier in the day, Gabbard held the Braves to two runs on six hits and a walk over five innings. Gabbard, who struck out seven and picked up a win, was replaced on Boston's roster by Manny Delcarmen.
