August 21, 2008
Kason Gabbard is continuing his rehab from season-ending elbow surgery, and believes he will be ready for the start of the 2009 campaign, according to the Star-Telegram.

Our View:Gabbard struggled this season due to injuries, but posted a solid 6-1 record in 2007, with a 1.34 WHIP. He could bounce back favorably next season if healthy.
July 18, 2008
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels reports LHP Kason Gabbard will miss the remainder of the season, undergoing surgery to remove bone spurs in his left elbow, according to the Star Telegram.

Our View:Gabbard was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 28th and has struggled to regain health since. He registered just two wins this season with an ERA of 4.82.
June 28, 2008
The Rangers have placed LHP Kason Gabbard on the 15-day disabled list, recalling reliever Warner Madrigal from Triple-A Oklahoma to fill his roster spot, according to FoulTerritory.com.

Our View:Gabbard pitched just 3 1/3 innings Friday night and didn't factor in the decision. He has two wins this year and a 4.82 ERA. He's walked 39 in 56 innings and allowed 64 hits. This will be his second trip to the DL this year.
June 15, 2008
Kason Gabbard, who was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma, did not fare well in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Mets in the bottom half of a double-header, as he allowed four earned runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings, with three walks and four strikeouts.

Our View:Gabbard has allowed at least four earned runs in four straight starts, and is not worthy of fantasy consideration.
June 15, 2008
The Rangers recalled Kason Gabbard from Triple-A Oklahoma on Saturday night.

Our View:Gabbard will start the second game of today's double header at Shea. Kevin Millwood takes the mound against John Maine in the first.
June 12, 2008
Kason Gabbard is penciled into the rotation to start on Saturday, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Gabbard will replace Doug Mathis, who will be sent to the bullpen. Gabbard is 1-2 over nine starts this season, with a 4.75 ERA and dismal 1.80 WHIP. He will be given another shot to start with the Rangers, but should not be given a chance as a fantasy performer.
May 30, 2008
Pitcher Kason Gabbard has been sent down to Triple-A Oklahoma, according to the Star-Telegram. Doug Mathis will take his place in the rotation.

Our View:Gabbard was 0-1 with a 4.75 ERA and 1.80 WHIP over nine starts, and the struggling hurler held no fantasy value prior to his demotion.
May 28, 2008
Kason Gabbard was wayward again on Wednesday. He walked six Rays over 4.1 innings of work. The southpaw served up five hits and five runs (four earned). It was Gabbard's second straight six-walk appearance.

Our View:Gabbard simply doesn't have the stuff to get away with too many walks, and his fantasy value has suddenly taken a sharp turn over the last two weeks. Owners should bench him until he straightens out.
May 24, 2008
Kason Gabbard walked six Cleveland batters in just 2 2/3 innings last night, but he insists his control problems are not the result of any sort of physical ailment. "I questioned him about it last night and he gave me an unequivocable positive answer," pitching coach Mark Connor said on MLB.com. "It was very uncharacteristic of him, but he's had six starts, and four have been quality. Last night was non-quality, but we'll get him back out there in five days. I have a lot of confidence in Gabby, I've never seen him struggle to find the strike zone. He was down with his sinker and getting behind guys. It wasn't pretty."

Our View:Gabbard has walked five batters per nine innings in his career, so it's not like he's had Greg Maddux-like control that is suddenly eluding him. He's just a young guy that's going to have his fair share of outings where he's completely lost, and Friday was one of those.
May 13, 2008
The Texas Rangers picked up the 5-2 win over the Seattle Mariners this evening, led by the effort of LHP Kason Gabbard . In his sixth start of the season, Gabbard pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

Our View:Gabbard is not eating too many innings, but he's keeping the scores low and that is bringing positive results. He now has four no-decisions in a row, but at least the effort towards success is there.
May 9, 2008
Kason Gabbard returned to the big leagues for the start tonight and he was able to last 3.2 innings before having to leave the game after allowing two hits and four walks, though the Mariners failed to push a run across the plate. In truth, Gabbard was removed from the game because he injured his leg when Richie Sexson charged the mound after Gabbard threw one up an in.

Our View:Gabbard now owns a 1.85 ERA over five starts this year, and if that doesn't get your attention in AL Only leagues, we don't know what will. Make sure he is healthy before you scamper to the waiver wire to pick him up.
May 8, 2008
Kason Gabbard (back) was activated from the the DL on Thursday as the team optioned A.J. Murray to Triple-A, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Gabbard was thrown right into the fire as he started tonight against the Mariners. Gabbard is 1-0 with a 2.18 ERA in four previous starts this season.
May 3, 2008
Kason Gabbard gave up one run in four innings on Saturday in a rehab start with Double-A Frisco, according to the AP. Gabbard threw just 30 pitches in the first three innings but needed 35 more to finish the fourth, when he walked three batters and forced in a run. Gabbard said he became a “little fatigued” in his final inning. He did register six strikeouts and said, "I was happy with my outing."

Our View:Gabbard was placed on the 15-day DL last month because of a sore lower back. The Rangers have indicated that he could return to their rotation on Thursday (May 8) in Seattle.
April 28, 2008
Kason Gabbard has been throwing off flat ground since going on the DL for his stiff back, and is expected to throw a bullpen session on Wednesday, according to The Dallas Morning News. If that goes favorably, he will make a rehab start on Saturday, likely for Double-A Frisco.

Our View:That would put Gabbard in position to return to the Rangers' rotation May 8 at Seattle, barring a setback. He was 1-0 with a 2.18 ERA over 20.2 innings before getting hurt.
April 26, 2008
Kason Gabbard played catch and commented that the pain in his back that forced him to the DL is all but gone, according to the Star-Telegram. He expects to be back at full strength later this week.

Our View:His next scheduled start could be May 7 against Seattle, barring a setback.
April 24, 2008
As expected, Kason Gabbard has been placed on the 15-day DL due to his lower back spasms, according to the AP. The team recalled Scott Feldman and Kazuo Fukumori from the minors, and optioned righty Wes Littleton to Triple-A Oklahoma.

Our View:Feldman will fill his spot in the rotation today against the Tigers. His next scheduled start could be May 7 against Seattle, if his ailing back allows.
April 23, 2008
The Texas Rangers are facing more than a few necessary decisions in terms of their pitching staff, and many of those decisions were reported on today, according to MLB.com. The Rangers have reported Kason Gabbard is going to be placed on the disabled list, still experiencing stiffness and discomfort in his back that appears too great to overcome for his next scheduled start.

Our View:Gabbard will be officially placed on the DL on Thursday, pushing his next scheduled start to May 7th against the Seattle Mariners.
April 23, 2008
Kason Gabbard's back was still stiff on Tuesday more than 24 hours after he injured it when he slipped off the pitching rubber at Fenway Park and he could land on the DL, according to the Dallas Morning News. Gabbard played some catch Tuesday and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session today in preparation for his scheduled Saturday start, but it's possible he may have to skip the throwing session. If he does, it would put his start in jeopardy and might force the Rangers to put him on the shelf. Scott Feldman, who pitched Saturday for Double-A Frisco, would be the most likely candidate to replace him in the rotation. Gabbard stated, "I want to pitch. But if I need to miss one start to get this better, I'd rather do it now. I've missed throwing sessions before and still made my start. I just don't want to push it into something more serious."

Our View:Gabbard was pitching well as he holds a 1-0 record with a 2.18 ERA over 20.2 innings pitched. If Scott Feldman does not get the call, then Sidney Ponson could potentially get another shot to start.
April 22, 2008
Kason Gabbard may not be able to take his next turn in the rotation. His back felt stiff and sore on Tuesday, one day after leaving his outing against the Red Sox. "I still feel it when I try to extend my arm and twist my back to throw," Gabbard informs MLB.com. His next outing is scheduled for Saturday.

Our View:We're hoping Gabbard can be ready for Saturday. If nothing else, we really aren't eager to see the Rangers give another shot to Sidney Ponson.
April 21, 2008
Kason Gabbard left Monday's start against the Red Sox in the bottom of the third inning due to a sore back, the Dallas Morning News reports. The southpaw had not allowed a hit, but he did walk three batters. Dustin Nippert took his place.

Our View:We'll update Gabbard's status when more is known.
April 16, 2008
Kason Gabbard lasted six innings on Wednesday and allowed seven hits and two runs on his way to permitting two runs to the Jays.

Our View:Gabbard continues to limit the damage in his starts despite giving up his fair share of base runners, which is all that the Rangers and his fantasy owners have the right to expect right now.
April 15, 2008
According to the Dallas Morning News, after a shaky spring training, Kason Gabbard has started the season with a couple of solid outings. He allowed his first two runs of the season in his last start against Baltimore. He went 5 2/3 innings and gave up seven hits but got no decision in a Rangers win.

Our View:It should be no surprise that any staff, including the Rangers' fare better away from Ranger Stadium. Texas pitchers have a 2.31 ERA away from Arlington and a 5.32 ERA at home.
April 9, 2008
Kason Gabbard threw seven scoreless innings in his first start of the season, and he will look to keep his ERA perfect as Texas hosts Baltimore tonight, according to MLB.com. His fantasy stock will continue to rise if he fires another strong game from the hill.
March 25, 2008
Kason Gabbard could be the Rangers' possible choice for the fourth spot in the rotation, according to Dallas News. Manager Ron Washington stated his support of Gabbard to start the fourth game of the season against the Angels, but added that his decision as to who the fourth starter officially will be has not been made.
