Player Notes
February 8, 2010
Vinny Rottino has signed a minor league deal with the Marlins, according to TSN.

Our View:The 29-year-old first baseman is a career .208 hitter in the bigs. Rottino is not likely going to win a roster spot with Florida in spring training.

According to Amy K. Nelson of ESPN.com, the Dodgers have acquired catcher Vinny Rottino from the Brewers for pitcher Claudio Vargas.

Our View:This obviously isn't a big move for the Dodgers. Rottino was DFAed by the Brewers earlier this year, and despite being 29 years old he has amassed just 24 Major League at-bats. The Brewers did well to get a starter for him.

Vinny Rottino has been designated for assignment by the Brewers, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. He was moved to make room for Braden Looper on the roster.

Our View:The 28-year-old only has 24 Major League at-bats under his belt, and was not expected to be part of the Brewers' mix at catcher this season.

The Brewers purchased the contract of Vinny Rottino from Triple-A on Friday. He hit .314 with seven homers and 42 RBI before the promotion. He can play the corner infield positions and will also be used as the third-string catcher.
