Player Notes

Jonathan Sanchez was shelled for six earned runs on three hits over two innings in Sunday's 10-8 loss to the Brewers in exhibition action. He issued five walks and no strikeouts.

Our View:This was a polar opposite of Sanchez's previous outing, when he fired three scoreless innings against the Cubs. Expect Sanchez to have more solid starts than terrible ones this season - but he will be hard-pressed to throw another no-hitter, like he did in 2009.

Jonathan Sanchez earned his first win this spring with three shutout innings against the Cubs.

Our View:Sanchez allowed three hits, but struck out five and did not walk a man. He's always been able to blow hitters away, but control has long been an issue. Which is what makes Wednesday's start so impressive. If he can harness his stuff and keep the walks to a minimum he is poised for a big time breakout in 2010.

The Giants avoided arbitration with Jonathan Sanchez by agreeing to a one-year, $2.1 million deal, according to Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman.

Our View:Sanchez got into the national spotlight after a no-hitter right before the All-Star break (it would have been a perfect game had it not been for a Juan Uribe error). He was also pretty solid after the break, posting a 3.83 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 98 strikeouts in 84.2 innings. If he can keep his control under wraps, he has the potential to be an excellent fantasy pitcher.
