Manager Jim Riggleman listed Matt Capps as the favorite to open 2010 as his team's closer, according to MASN Sports.

Our View:Washington has several options, having also added Brian Bruney and Eddie Guardado, but it looks like Capps should be the man as long as he looks alright in spring training. With an at least slightly revamped roster, the Nationals could provide Capps with a decent number of save opportunities this upcoming season.

The Washington Nationals have inked Matt Capps to a one-year deal, according to ESPN.com. The deal is expected to be worth $3.5 million.

Our View:The decision came down to the Nats, Mets, and Cubs. The Nats were the best shot for him to get a closing job and that likely factored into the one-year deal. He will be eligible for arbitration next offseason. Fantasy-wise, he could be a nice steal on draft day if he re-discover his pre-2009 form.

Updating a previous report, Matt Capps is apparently not close to a deal with the Washington Nationals, according to Bill Ladson on Twitter.

Our View:A deal was expected to be reached by this time, but Capps' agent is still wheeling and dealing and apparently the talks have hit a snag. The timetable now suggests that Capps will make a decision right after Christmas. Stay tuned.

According to ESPN.com, the Nationals are closing in on a one-year deal with free agent reliever Matt Capps.

Our View:Capps has been a hot commodity this offseason, and it's surprising to see that the lowly Nationals are the ones closest to reeling him in. He is expected to make a decision later tonight, and if he does sign with the Nats, he would instantly become the favorite to close. He had 27 saves a year ago, but his ERA was a bloated 5.80, so he remains a risky fantasy option.

Reliever Matt Capps is being lobbied by former teammate John Grabow to join the Cubs, according to MLB.com. Capps is expected to make his decision between the Nationals and the Cubs by Wednesday night.

Our View:Capps would likely get a shot to close in Washington, but the Cubs are obviously expected to be more in line to contend next season. Expect a decision soon.
