MLB.com is reporting that the Pirates plan to use Matt Capps in the closer's role in 2010 unless he is traded in the offseason. Capps has struggled in 2009, posting a 5.91 ERA and blowing five saves.

Our View:The Pirates may try to move Capps during the winter, but they may not be able to get any value for him after his awful 2009 season. His ERA is at 7.30 since July 12, and he hasn't been dominant at all as the team's closer. He may be better suited for a setup role, but if he stays in Pittsburgh he will be closing again next season.

Matt Capps allowed three runs (two earned) in the ninth inning against the Dodgers on Sunday, but his offense bailed him out. The Buccos responded with four in the bottom of the frame en route to a 6-5, walk-off win.

Our View:Capps earned the win Sunday, but his record now stands at an unsightly 4-8. He also owns an ERA just below 6.00 on the season and is a risky fantasy play, even if you really need saves.

Matt Capps was ejected on Sunday after beaning the Cardinals' Albert Pujols.

Our View:The pitch was his first after allowing a two-run home run to Skip Schumaker. Although obviously intentional, no warnings had been issued previously, and he is unlikely to be suspended.

The Pirates are talking to several MLB clubs about closer Matt Capps, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:Capps' rights can be retained two more years through arbitration, and he could be hard for a team to acquire, unless they want to overpay. He seems likely to remain in Pittsburgh.

FoxSports.com is reporting that the Twins are interested in trading for Pirates' pitcher Matt Capps. The Twins may also be interested in second baseman Freddy Sanchez and pitcher John Grabow.

Our View:The Pirates have demonstrated that they are not shy about trading away their players, and Capps could improve the Twins' bullpen. A move like that would kill his fantasy value, so Capps' owners should monitor him until the trade deadline.
