The Mariners have signed Randy Messenger to a minor league deal, according to the News Tribune.

Our View:The 27-year-old hurler will be invited to spring training, but is not expected to be fantasy-worthy if he makes the Mariners as a reliever.
January 28, 2009
The Mariners have released Randy Messenger to make room on their roster for the recently acquired Garrett Olson.

Our View:The 27-year-old right-hander should find a minor league somewhere in time for spring training. He logged just 12.2 innings in the majors last season, and posted a 3.55 ERA.
August 25, 2008
Reliever Randy Messenger was recalled by the Seattle Mariners from their Triiple-A club, taking the roster spot of Mark Lowe, who was sent down, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

Our View:Messenger has not pitched in the big leagues this season, but was not fantasy worthy in 2007, and remains that way in 2008.

Randy Messenger will undergo surgery today to repair the fracture in his non-pitching hand, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. It's possible he'll be able to pitch again this season. He could begin throwing a week after the surgery.
