August 31, 2008 Brewers reliever Carlos Villanueva is upset with Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols, who did not appreciate it when Villanueva apparently made some gestures towards the Cardinals dugout and let Villanueva know it, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "I think sometimes he thinks he’s bigger than the game. He’s not. ... I used to have a lot of respect for Pujols. Now, I’ve lost some of that respect. I don’t know why he would say those things about me. They’re not true. I have respect for the game," Villanueva said. Our View:This is hilarious coming from a guy with a career record of 14-13 and an ERA over 4.00, while Pujols is a future Hall of Fame player. |

June 1, 2008 Carlos Villanueva is currently working as a reliever, but he still envisions himself as a starter in the long run. So do the Brewers. "(Manager Ned Yost) said he still sees me as a starter (at some point)," Villanueva informs the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The 24-year-old right-hander posted a 6.43 ERA over nine starts before being moved to the bullpen. Our View:Villanueva pitched well as a long relief guy in 2007 and has sharpened up since returning to the bullpen this year. He profiles as a starter, but his relief work suggests he could end up pushing for a valuable late-inning role down the road. Anyway, Villanueva still has some value in NL-only and in keeper leagues. |
