Brewers reliever Carlos Villanueva is upset with Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols, who did not appreciate it when Villanueva apparently made some gestures towards the Cardinals dugout and let Villanueva know it, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "I think sometimes he thinks he’s bigger than the game. He’s not. ... I used to have a lot of respect for Pujols. Now, I’ve lost some of that respect. I don’t know why he would say those things about me. They’re not true. I have respect for the game," Villanueva said.

Our View:This is hilarious coming from a guy with a career record of 14-13 and an ERA over 4.00, while Pujols is a future Hall of Fame player.

Carlos Villanueva is currently working as a reliever, but he still envisions himself as a starter in the long run. So do the Brewers. "(Manager Ned Yost) said he still sees me as a starter (at some point)," Villanueva informs the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The 24-year-old right-hander posted a 6.43 ERA over nine starts before being moved to the bullpen.

Our View:Villanueva pitched well as a long relief guy in 2007 and has sharpened up since returning to the bullpen this year. He profiles as a starter, but his relief work suggests he could end up pushing for a valuable late-inning role down the road. Anyway, Villanueva still has some value in NL-only and in keeper leagues.

Carlos Villanueva threw two scoreless innings, striking out five of the six hitters he faced, and the Milwaukee Brewers survived extra innings to defeat the Washington Nationals 4-3 on Monday afternoon.

Our View:Villanueva, is now a long reliever for the Brew Crew. His appearance today was only his second relief stint after starting nine games in April and May. The right-hander has little fantasy value, and none in traditional formats.
May 18, 2008
Carlos Villanueva was hit hard yet again as the Red Sox piled up six runs, five earned, in four innings. Carlos fell to 2-5.

Our View:Villanueava has allowed five or more earned runs in three of his last four outings, and those might be Jeff Weaver's footsteps you hear in the background.
May 8, 2008
Carlos Villanueva lasted five innings on Thursday night, but it was a brutal five innings as he issued two walks, allowed 10 hits and was beaten for seven runs to fall to 1-4 on the year.

Our View:Boy are the Brewers going to miss Yovani Gallardo. If Villanueva keeps struggling, the team might call up Jeff Weaver, who has looked pretty good in the minors.

Carlos Villanueva retired the first 11 batters in Friday night's game against Houston, but suffered his third loss of the season in a 7-4 defeat at the hands of the Astros. The Brewers' right-hander allowed six runs on nine hits, walked none and struck out four in five innings of work.

Our View:Close to losing his rotation spot when Yovani Gallardo returned from a spring training knee injury, Villanueva did little to help himself in tonight's loss. His ERA rose to 5.56 over his six '08 starts.
April 26, 2008
Carlos Villanueva got a no-decision despite allowing only two runs on six hits in six innings for the Brewers vs. Florida. He didn’t allow any walks and struck out five.

Our View:Villanueva has struggled to open the season, allowing at least two walks in each start leading up to Saturday. This is a great step for the talented youngster, but it still might be early for mixed-league owners to rely on him.
April 21, 2008
Carlos Villanueva hurled a strong seven inning on Monday night as he allowed just two runs to the Cardinals in a no decision. Carlos allowed just three hits but four walks on the night.

Our View:Villanueva has a rather unimpressive 11 K in 23 innings on the year, and his ERA sits at 5.09, but with the way that David Bush has pitched Carlos may stay in the starting rotation a bit longer.
April 16, 2008
Carlos Villanueva had problems on the night as he allowed eight hits and two BB in just 4.2 innings in his second loss of the year.

Our View:Villanueva had no punchouts on the night and he gave up two home runs including one to Adam Wainwright, and you don't need us to tell you that allowing home runs to pitchers isn't part of a successful formula.

Carlos Villanueva was dealt his first loss of the season on Thursday, as he surrendered four runs on seven hits over six innings against Cincinnati, with three walks and four strikeouts. Villanueva is believed to be a candidate to be sent down when Yovani Gallardo returns to the rotation, and this was not a good day for him in his bid to keep his job.
March 26, 2008
Carlos Villanueva will open the season as the fourth starter in the Brewers rotation, but he is a candidate to be sent down when Yovani Gallardo returns. "We have another tough decision to make in two weeks, once the season starts," manager Ned Yost tells the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "We're going to have to see who's pitching good during that period, then make another decision." Villanueva will pitch the home opener on April 4 against the Giants. He is worth a roster spot in NL-only and keeper leagues, and mixed league owners many want to give him a shot against the weak Giants lineup.
March 16, 2008
Carlos Villanueva a will continue his bid for a spot in the Brewers' starting rotation on Monday, the final split-squad date this spring for Milwaukee, according to MLB.com. The team has both Villanueva and fellow starting candidate Chris Capuano scheduled to pitch five innings with approximately 80 pitches in one of the final opportunities they will have to voice their worth for the job. Villanueva will face the White Sox with Capuano facing Mariners. This could be a big moment for both pitchers, so check back in to see how it goes.
March 2, 2008
Carlos Villanueva tossed two scoreless innings Sunday, allowing one hit while striking out one. Villanueva is trying to win a spot in the Brewers rotation this spring and could be a nice sleeper if he comes away with a starting job.
February 22, 2008
It remains unclear whether Carlos Villanueva will earn a spot in the rotation, work from the bullpen, or head to the minors when camp breaks, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "I'm watching. I look for the smoke to clear and see where everybody ends up," manager Ned Yost said Thursday. "When it's done, it's going to be pretty clear. Then, you make your decision." He'll be prepped this spring as a starter, but he'll have to earn a spot in the rotation or bullpen with a quality spring performance.
