Carlos Villanueva allowed three runs on four hits and a walk in the ninth inning on Sunday and it cost the Brewers a win. They fell to the Braves 8-7.

Our View:Villanueva now has four blown saves on the season to go with his disappointing 2-4 record. He won't be stealing many save opportunities from Trevor Hoffman, especially after this performance.

Carlos Villanueva picked up his second save of the season on Wednesday with the Brewers holding back Trevor Hoffman to make sure he is fully recovered from his oblique issue.

Our View:Don't go panicking if you have Hoffman, this is just an admission by the Brew Crew that they want to ease Hoffman back into the ninth inning role. Once Hoffman proves he is healthy, he should get the vast majority of save chances for the club.

Carlos Villanueva took a one run lead into the ninth inning Saturday and promptly gave it up. He allowed two runs on two hits, including a two-run shot to Alfonso Soriano and the Brewers fell to the Cubs 6-5.

Our View:Villanueva got his first blown save and his first loss of the season in the same inning. He's filling in for Trevor Hoffman until he returns from injury, but may not keep his temp job long if he has too many outing like this.

Carlos Villanueva got the save in the Brewers 4-2 win over the Giants on Wednesday. He tossed a perfect ninth inning and struck out two.

Our View:Villanueva is filling in for the injured Trevor Hoffman, but could be a decent closing option for your fantasy team. The book is still out on how long Hoffman will be on the DL and if Villanueva is effective enough he may keep the job.
March 29, 2009
Carlos Villanueva may replace the ailing Trevor Hoffman as the Brewers' closer for the start of the season, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Villanueva said, "Hopefully, we will get Trevor back quick. But if I get the opportunity, of course I would consider it an honor to do that job. As long as I keep doing what I am doing now, I will be fine. I never panicked. I feel more comfortable out there now."

Our View:Hoffman could be on the shelf until at least mid-April while recovering from a strained oblique. Villanueva fired 93 strikeouts over 108.1 innings in 2008, while maintaining a 1.31 WHIP. He would be worth a look for NL-only leagues until Hoffman comes back.
