Carlos Villanueva is currently working as a reliever, but he still envisions himself as a starter in the long run. So do the Brewers. "(Manager Ned Yost) said he still sees me as a starter (at some point)," Villanueva informs the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The 24-year-old right-hander posted a 6.43 ERA over nine starts before being moved to the bullpen.

Our View:Villanueva pitched well as a long relief guy in 2007 and has sharpened up since returning to the bullpen this year. He profiles as a starter, but his relief work suggests he could end up pushing for a valuable late-inning role down the road. Anyway, Villanueva still has some value in NL-only and in keeper leagues.

Carlos Villanueva threw two scoreless innings, striking out five of the six hitters he faced, and the Milwaukee Brewers survived extra innings to defeat the Washington Nationals 4-3 on Monday afternoon.

Our View:Villanueva, is now a long reliever for the Brew Crew. His appearance today was only his second relief stint after starting nine games in April and May. The right-hander has little fantasy value, and none in traditional formats.

Carlos Villanueva was hit hard yet again as the Red Sox piled up six runs, five earned, in four innings. Carlos fell to 2-5.

Our View:Villanueava has allowed five or more earned runs in three of his last four outings, and those might be Jeff Weaver's footsteps you hear in the background.
May 8, 2008
Carlos Villanueva lasted five innings on Thursday night, but it was a brutal five innings as he issued two walks, allowed 10 hits and was beaten for seven runs to fall to 1-4 on the year.

Our View:Boy are the Brewers going to miss Yovani Gallardo. If Villanueva keeps struggling, the team might call up Jeff Weaver, who has looked pretty good in the minors.

Carlos Villanueva retired the first 11 batters in Friday night's game against Houston, but suffered his third loss of the season in a 7-4 defeat at the hands of the Astros. The Brewers' right-hander allowed six runs on nine hits, walked none and struck out four in five innings of work.

Our View:Close to losing his rotation spot when Yovani Gallardo returned from a spring training knee injury, Villanueva did little to help himself in tonight's loss. His ERA rose to 5.56 over his six '08 starts.
