Carlos Villanueva and the Brewers have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt.

Our View:Terms of the deal have not yet surfaced. While Villanueva did display his versatility last year, serving as a starter, middle reliever, setup man and closer at various points of the season, he wasn't particularly effective in any of the roles. There's no need for fantasy owners to bother with Villanueva.

Carlos Villanueva allowed four runs in five sloppy innings in St. Louis on Saturday, but picked up his fourth win of the season thanks to six early Brewer runs in the team's 6-5 win.

Our View:Villanueva finishes the season with a 5.34 ERA in 96 innings pitched. He's still only 25 years old, but after four years in the big leagues, it's hard to see him getting much better.

Carlos Villanueva was hammered for six earned runs on 11 hits over a mere four innings in Monday's 9-5 loss at Pittsburgh. He had one walk and two strikeouts, and gave up two homers.

Our View:Villanueva was handed his 10th loss of 2009 following his nightmarish outing. He is not an option outside of deeper fantasy leagues.
August 12, 2009
Carlos Villanueva wasn't bad for a Brewers starter on Wednesday, allowing just two runs in 5.2 innings, but it sill wasn't enough, as Milwaukee lost 6-5 to the Padres at home.

Our View:If nothing else, Villanueva likely earned himself another start with his near quality start Wednesday night. With it tentatively coming against the Pirates next Monday, there are worse players you could add.
August 11, 2009
Carlos Villanueva will start on Wednesday for the Brewers against the Padres, according to MLB.com. Villanueva has struggled this season to the tune of nine losses and a 6.05 ERA.

Our View:Manager Ken Macha decided to go with Villanueva over Mike Burns on Wednesday, which says more about Burns than it does Villanueva. Unless you are a relative or close, person friend, you should not even think about having Villanueva on your fantasy squad.
