Player Notes
August 5, 2008
Reds RHP Edinson Volquez suffered through one of his worst outings of the season tonight, taking the 8-1 loss against the Brewers. Volquez pitched just five innings, allowing five runs (all earned) on nine hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

Our View:Volquez moves to 13-5 on the season with a 2.93 ERA. That's two losses over his last three starts, and while the shorter outings have been an issue all season long, the lack of progress in working later in games is concerning.
July 30, 2008
Edinson Volquez improved to 13-4 on the year by holding the Astros to just a single earned run over 6.1 innings. Volquez did give up five runs on the night but he also only walked one in the outing.

Our View:This was the third straight game that Edinson has allowed four or more runs, and it was also his second straight game with two home runs allowed. He certainly isn't the pitcher he was earlier in the year, but there is no shame in that since there have been very few pitchers who were that dominating at any point in the past 20 years.
July 25, 2008
Reds right-handed sensation Edinson Volquez went through his second bad outing in a row, giving up five runs in four innings while throwing 99 pitches.

Our View:Volquez's ERA as gone from 2.08 on July 1 to 2.77, and he is clearly not what he was at the beginning of the season.
July 20, 2008
It hasn't happened often, but Cincinnati RHP Edinson Volquez suffered through a horrific outing on the mound as his Reds fell 7-5 to the Mets. Volquez allowed four runs (all earned) on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Our View:Put the official warning light on for those fearing the All-Star Game has ruined yet another arm. Volquez walked with no-decision, but the outing ranks as his worth since June 26th, one of just three losses on the season.
July 15, 2008
Edinson Volquez was hit hard in his All-Star Game debut, allowing a double to Justin Morneau and a home run to J.D. Drew in his one inning of work. He also struck out two batters.

Our View:Volquez has been dealing this season, but he was hurt by two power-hitting left-handed bats.
