The Blue Jays have decided to shut down reliever Jeremy Accardo, opting to have the injured pitcher get an early start to his offseason in an effort to make a healthy return for next year, according to MLB.com. "He's not going to come back with us this year," Toronto manager Cito Gaston said on Tuesday at Tropicana Field.

Our View:The 26-year-old Accardo was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right forearm on May 10 and has been recalled from his Minor League rehab assignment. Gaston noted that Accardo is scheduled to have his forearm examined by renowned arm specialist Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama

The Jays are close to shutting down Jeremy Accardo for the season. He has been on the disabled list with a strained forearm for more than three months, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View:Accardo hasn't pitched for three months so even if he could return he would have to shake off some rust. Expect the Jays to shut him down soon, as they are falling further and further out of the playoff race.
July 12, 2008
Jeremy Accardo, who is recovering from right forearm tightness, is scheduled to throw around 30 pitches off a mound on Saturday, according to BlueJays.com.

Our View:The Jays miss his late-inning arm, and he is hopeful to return to the bullpen a few weeks following the All-Star break.

Jeremy Accardo flew to Los Angeles on Friday to meet with Dr. Lewis Yocum about his sore right forearm. "I'm here just to try to get some peace of mind, to hear him tell me it's not the ligament and that I can just start letting it go," Accardo tells the Toronto Sun. "I'm just a little timid, a little shy to really release it. The throwing has been going good. I threw a bullpen (Thursday) and it felt fine." He has been out since May 9.

Our View:B.J. Ryan has locked down the ninth inning for the Blue Jays, but the club still missed Accardo's late-inning arm. Fantasy owners have obviously moved on.
June 13, 2008
Jeremy Accardo (forearm) will take two days off after suffering a setback in his rehabilitation assignment on Friday, this according to the AP.

Our View:Accardo was close to returning from the disabled list. How far this will push his return back is not yet known.
June 11, 2008
Jeremy Accardo pitched one shutout inning in his first rehab appearance Tuesday at Single-A Dunedin. The reliever is coming back from a strained right forearm.

Our View:Accardo is expected to need at least a week's worth of rehab outings before returning.
June 10, 2008
Jeremy Accardo is slated to begin a minor league rehab stint with High-A Dunedin on Tuesday, MLB.com reports. The reliever has been out since May 10 due to a strained right forearm. He is expected to need at least one week before rejoining the Blue Jays.

Our View:Between this injury and B.J. Ryan's excellent month of May, Accardo has lost pretty much all of his fantasy stock.
May 24, 2008
Jeremy Accardo, on the DL with a strained right forearm, has returned to throwing with Single-A Dunedin, according to the Slam Sports. Accardo threw in a simulated game according to manager John Gibbons.

Our View:The team has not set a return date for Accardo as of yet, and he will certainly not be activated on Sunday when eligible. With B.J. Ryan back throwing bullets, Accardo figures to slide into a setup role with Scott Downs once he returns.
May 10, 2008
Jeremy Accardo has landed on the 15-day DL due to a right forearm strain, according to globeandmail.com. Armando Benitez has been recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to cover his spot on the roster.

Our View:Accardo racked up four saves, but was also dealt three losses, and allowed nine runs and four walks over 12.1 innings, with only five strikeouts, and he held little fantasy value prior to his injury.
April 21, 2008
Jeremy Accardo righted what has been a rough start to the season on Sunday when he picked up a double play grounder to pick up his third save of the season, this according to MLB.com. "It feels good to get those rough ones out of my system," Accardo said on Sunday. "I got the bear off my back."

Our View:In five games between April 8-18, Accardo posted and ERA of 18.00 with two blown saves and three loses. Still, he figures to maintain his hold on the co-closer role with B.J. Ryan for now.
April 20, 2008
Jeremy Accardo picked up his fourth save of the season on Sunday as the Jays defeated the Tigers, 5-3.

Our View:Accardo has struggled as of late, but was called on to notch the save in place of closer B.J. Ryan. Accardo will continue to get save opps until Ryan is allowed to pitch on back-to-back days.
April 18, 2008
Jeremy Accardo had another rough outing on Friday night as he picked up his second blown save and third loss after allowing three runs, two earned, to the Tigers.

Our View:Accardo now sports a 10.29 ERA through eight appearances, and he has to be considered a dubious option to be called on to pick up a save when B.J. Ryan is not available. For those of you looking to vulture saves, you might want to keep the name of Scott Downs in mind.
April 9, 2008
Jeremy Accardo hit the mound today but now wishes he could forget the entire experience. Accardo came into the game in the 9th inning with two outs and a 3-2 lead, facing two men on and a game that needed to be saved. Accardo, but by the time he was done, he had earned just one out and had allowed four runs on just one hit. Of his 23 pitches, only 10 counted for strikes, taking his second loss and first blown save of the season.
April 6, 2008
Jeremy Accardo nailed down his third save of the season in a 7-4 win over Boston on Sunday, as he allowed no runs on two hits over his inning, with one strikeout. He is filling in nicely until BJ Ryan is ready to retain his closer's role.
April 2, 2008
Jeremy Accardo earned his first save of the season this evening, closing the 5-2 win for Toronto over the New York Yankees. Accardo faced three batters in the ninth, allowing two hits while striking out one, getting the remaining outs on fly balls.
March 19, 2008
Jeremy Accardo could get save opportunities early in the season, even if B.J. Ryan is ready. "I talked to him the first couple of days of spring," manager John Gibbons tells the Toronto Star. "I told him, 'If B.J.'s here (on the active roster), he's not going to be going back-to-back days. If he's not, then you're going to be the guy.'"
