Rich Hill had a decent spring outing against the Astros on Saturday, allowing one run in two innings of work. He did allow five baserunners, however.

Our View:So far, he hasn't shown anything to suggest he should be St. Louis' fifth starter this season. Kyle McClellan is the current clear leader for the gig.

Rich Hill is indeed being considered for the fifth spot in St. Louis' rotation this spring, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:His main competitor for the job is reliever Kyle McClellan. At least in the early going, McClellan is consider the favorite. Stay tuned.

The Cardinals have signed left-hander Rich Hill to a minor-league contract. The deal includes an invite to major league spring training.

Our View:Hill was dreadful in 14 games (13 starts) for the Orioles in 2009, going 3-3 with a 7.80 ERA and 1.87 WHIP. He has been unable to stay healthy since 2007, and is a long-shot to make any sort of an impact with the Cardinals in 2010. That being said, everyone knows how many miracles Cards pitching Dave Duncan has worked in his career. Maybe Hill will be next.
