Player Notes
September 1, 2009
Jason Vargas has been recalled by the Mariners from Triple-A Tacoma, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Vargas carries a 5.08 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over 79.2 innings (14 starts) with Seattle this season. The 26-year-old hurler's fantasy stock remains low.

Jason Vargas has been optioned to Triple-A Tacoma by the Mariners, according to TSN. Doug Fister was recalled by the club as the adjoining move.

Our View:Vargas failed to keep his job in the Mariners' rotation with a poor 5.08 ERA over 79.2 innings (14 starts). He won't be missed in fantasy leagues while pitching in the minors.
August 6, 2009
Jason Vargas struggled again on Thursday as the Mariners fell to the Royals by the score of 8-2. Vargas went seven innings and allowed eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits while walking three and not striking out a batter.

Our View:Vargas has not been good as of late, and any fantasy worth he previously had is gone now. Until he turns it around, he should no longer be considered as a starting pitcher in any fantasy format.
July 31, 2009
Jason Vargas was rocked for five earned runs on seven hits over five innings in Friday's 5-4 loss at Texas. He had one walk and two strikeouts, and issued two homers.

Our View:Vargas falls to 3-5 following tonight's weak performance. He is winless over his last five starts, and is only an option for deeper fantasy leagues.
July 26, 2009
Jason Vargas got ripped in his first start since July 8 on Sunday, allowing six runs in just four innings, as the Mariners lost 12-3 to the Indians at home.

Our View:It was an ugly day for Vargas, who was probably hoping to solidify himself a spot in the M's rotation. He could get more starts down the line, but is not a good choice to spot-start.
