Player Notes
December 15, 2009
The Nationals and right-hander Joel Peralta have agreed on a minor league contract.

Our View:The former Rockie opted for free agency, and even though the Nats scooped him up, he's not likely to make much of an impact. Last season he had a 6.20 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 27 appearances.

Joel Peralta has been optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Our View:Peralta had gotten torched in his last two outings, and has an abysmal 5.85 ERA on the season. Barring an injury in the Rockies bullpen, he's not likely to be recalled any time soon.

Joel Peralta has been recalled by the Rockies from Triple-A Colorado Springs, according to the Denver Post.

Our View:Peralta replaces the injured Matt Daley (sprained foot) in the Rockies' bullpen. The 33-year-old vet surrendered 15 homers over 52.2 innings of relief with the Royals last season, and does not look to bode well while playing at home at launching pad Coors Field.

Joel Peralta has been released by the Royals, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:The club cut the 33-year-old vet instead of sending him to the minors to save around $480,000 on his $640,000 salary. He surrendered four homers, six runs and 10 hits over 8.2 innings of spring action.
March 13, 2009
According to the Kansas City Star, Joel Peralta has reinvented himself with a new delivery. His last eight spring outs recorded have been strikeouts and he is making a bid to reclaim his spot in a crowded Royals bullpen.

Our View:This change seems to be working for Peralta. If he truly becomes consistently effective but doesn't make the Royals team, he'll likely end up with someone else as he is out of options. Regardless of the team he winds up on, he has little fantasy value.
