June 8, 2009
The Arizona Diamondbacks have claimed reliever Blaine Boyer off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View:This will be Boyer's third team in 2009, so that should tell you something about his fantasy value. Hopefully for the Diamondbacks, he can help shore up their leaky pen.

The Cardinals have designated reliever Blaine Boyer for assignment according to Cardinals beat reporter Derrick Goold.

Our View:The Braves did the same thing to Boyer in April, and the Cardinals traded outfielder Brian Barton to get him. While he was relatively effective for the club with a 1.16 WHIP and .230 batting average against, the team needed room for Triple-A Memphis call up Jess Todd.

According to MLB.com, the Cardinals have acquired Blaine Boyer from the Braves for outfielder Brian Barton.

Our View:This move makes sense for the Cardinals since they are loaded with young outfielders and hurting for relief pitching. Boyer struggled mightily before being sent down by the Braves, but the Cards are hoping pitching coach Dave Duncan can work his magic on another struggling pitcher.
April 18, 2009
Blaine Boyer has been designated for assignment by the Braves, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View:Boyer allowed six earned runs and three walks over 1.1 innings of work with Atlanta this season, and the club did not give him a chance to get on track.

MLB.com reports that Blaine Boyer has a restored sense of confidence and that his offseason training with John Smoltz will prevent him from burning out again this season.

Our View:In his last 22 appearances in 2008 he had a 12.71 ERA. The 27-year-old possesses an electric arm as evidenced by his 8.38 K/9 rate. He may be considered for the Braves closer job in the future, but that future will not likely be this year.
