Contrary to a report from earlier today, Russell Martin's strain in his lower abdominal/groin area is worse than originally thought and likely to keep him out the next four to six weeks, according to the L.A. Times' Dylan Hernandez.

Our View:Hernandez cites manager Joe Torre as his source, so we'll trust him on this one. This definitely puts a big detour in Martin's attempt to bounce back from last season's disappointing campaign, as there now appears to be little chance that he'll be on the field by Opening Day. Look for Brad Ausmus to take over the starting catcher duties until Martin heals, with A.J. Price assuming the backup role.

Russell Martin has been diagnosed with a slight strain in his lower abdominal/groin area, according to the L.A. Times' Dylan Hernandez.

Our View:While you never like to hear about lower-body injuries to a catcher, Martin should still be healed and ready to resume normal activities after a few days of rest.

Russell Martin will not play today in order to have his sore groin checked out, according to Fox Sports' Jon Morosi.

Our View:This doesn't appear to be anything serious, and the Dodgers will obviously play it safe in spring training. Check back in on Martin's status in a few days, but don't take this as any news to dock his fantasy ranking.

Russell Martin has reported to Spring Training roughly 25 pounds heavier than he was last Spring Training, according to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. He has weighed in at 231 this spring.

Our View:Hernandez does not specify whether Martin has intentionally added the weight or not. With the incredibly shrinking Geovany Soto and now the incredibly expanding Russell Martin, it has been a very interesting offseason for formerly ballyhooed catchers. Martin batted .250 last season, a full 30 points lower than his previous career low. Since the beginning of 2008, he has slugged just 20 home runs.

The Dodgers and Russell Martin have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $5.05 million deal, according to the LA Times' Dylan Hernandez.

Our View:The Dodgers successfully signed all their remaining arbitration-eligible players today. Martin had a very down season last year but could be a sleeper in fantasy drafts if he's able to come anywhere close to his form from the previous few seasons.
