Player Notes
August 23, 2008
Phil Hughes was rocked for eight runs while pitching for Triple-A Scranton against Lehigh Valley Friday, according to the NY Post. He allowed 10 hits, over a mere 3.1 innings of work.

Our View:Hughes was terrible over six games with the Yankees this season, and isn't having better success in the minors right now either. Fantasy owners should let him go if he is still on rosters.

Phil Hughes fared well in Tuesday's rehab start as he allowed two earned runs over 5.2 innings at Triple-A Scranton, and the NY Daily News suggests that he may re-join the Yankees' rotation as soon as next Tuesday in place of Dan Giese.

Our View:Hughes threw 84 pitches, meaning he'd be able to approach 100 in his next start. Hughes was ineffective over six starts with the Yankees this season, and would be a risky fantasy hurler for AL-only leagues if he gets another chance in the rotation.
August 9, 2008
Phil Hughes pitched 4.2 innings in his rehab start in Triple-A, and allowed one run on three hits while striking out two, according to the New York Post. It is possible he could re-join the Yankees for his next start.

Our View:Hughes has been out since April, and with the Yankees short on pitching, he may find himself on the mound in Yankee Stadium later this week. He was ineffective early in the year, and is a shaky fantasy prospect.
August 7, 2008
Phil Hughes will throw 60 pitches in a rehab start tonight for Triple-A Scranton, according to the Lower Hudson Journal News. He will make a few more starts after that in order to build his arm strength.

Our View:The injury-prone Hughes was awful in the majors this season, but with Wang out and Pettitte now hurting, he may be able to give the Yankees a lift in September.
July 8, 2008
Phil Hughes, who has begun the initial steps in his rehab, may not start again until September, according to Newsday.

Our View:The Yanks are clearly taking their time with their prized arm, but may be rushed if the AL East/wildcard race heats up.
