The Rays recalled Jeff Niemann from Triple-A Durham Saturday.

Our View:Niemann will serve as a long reliever and could get a spot start in the final week if the Rays clinch a playoff spot.

MLB.com reports that Jeff Niemann flirted with a no-hitter on Saturday night. The 25-year-old right-hander took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and struck out 11 as the Bulls took a 2-1 lead in their best-of-5 International League semifinal series with a 3-2 victory over the Louisville Bats. Louisville had 24 hits the on Thursday. Niemann's no-hit bid ended when Craig Tatum slammed a double off the center-field wall leading off the eighth.

Our View:Niemann only made two starts for the Rays this season and gave up six runs over 9.1 innings. However, he has been spectacular in the minors and will likely be called up after the minor league playoffs end.

While pitching for Triple-A Durham, Jeff Niemann struck out 12 batters in a complete game that saw him allow just one run on Wednesday.

Our View:The Rays farm system is loaded with explosive arms like Niemann. He has averaged nearly a strike out per inning but has battled inconsistency throughout the year. Barring significant injuries to the rotation, don't expect to see Niemann join the major's best team any time soon.

The Rays sent Jeff Niemann down to Triple-A Durham on Sunday night, the Tampa Tribune reports.

Our View:Niemann produced one positive and one rough start as he replaced Matt Garza. It almost certainly won't be the last time we see Niemann in the majors this year.

Jeff Niemann wasn't able to match his strong first start as he allowed eight runs, five earned, in just 3.1 innings on Friday night to pick up the loss.

Our View:Neimann is nothing more than an AL Only starter at this point, and even that is a questionable play given that he has allowed three home runs and 11 hits in just 9.1 innings so far.
