It turns out that the injury to Howie Kendrick's hamstring is more serious than originally thought as he was placed on the DL on Thursday, Orange County Register. Brandon Wood was recalled from Triple-A to take the open roster spot.

Our View:Kendrick missed over 40 games earlier in the year with a similar injury. The guy can rake, he owns a career .306 batting average, but he has only 29 walks in his career (246 games) and just cannot stay healthy for any length of time which continues to keep his value down.
August 27, 2008
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim second baseman Howie Kendrick left Wednesday's game against the Oakland Athletics in the fourth inning with an injured leg, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Kendrick was running to second base on Mark Teixeira's single, but came up gimpy as he arrived at the bag. Sean Rodriguez replaced Kendrick on the basepath and took over at the four position in the top of the fifth. When we have news on his condition and the details of the injury, we'll let you know.
August 20, 2008
Howie Kendrick, batting just .117 on the Angels' current road trip with two hits in five games, was given Wednesday night off as his team wrapped up a three-game series with the sizzling Rays at Tropicana Field, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Taking over at second base was Sean Rodriguez, who flourished defensively while Kendrick was sidelined earlier in the season with a left hamstring strain. The Angels went 14-7 with Rodriguez in the starting lineup, though he hit .185 with a homer and three RBIs.
August 2, 2008
Howie Kendrick went 2-for-4 in Saturday's 8-2 loss to the Yankees. He hit a single and a double, accounting for two of the Angels' three hits in the game.

Our View:Kendrick is hitting .333 and should remain active in fantasy lineups.
July 23, 2008
Howie Kendrick had four hits on Wednesday, three of which were doubles, on his way to raising his average to .341. Kendrick also scored three runs and had three RBI.

Our View:Kendrick actually has more stolen bases (seven) than walks this season (five), and that just isn't a recipe for long term success. There is no doubting the man can rake, but until he gains a better control of the strike zone he will likely continue to be nothing more than an empty average hitter in the mold of Placido Polanco.
July 12, 2008
The Angels used the bats of eight different batters tonight in posting the 4-1 win over Oakland, spreading nine hits over those players throughout the game. Only second baseman Howie Kendrick managed to shine, going 2-for-4 with one RBI on the night.

Our View:The work was done with pitching, but fantasy owners should note Kendrick is hitting .385 through July with eight RBIs on the month as well.
July 10, 2008
Howie Kendrick had a big Thursday night with his first two home runs of the season as he went 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBI for the Angels.

Our View:Kendrick is hitting .328 in 177 AB for the Angels, though with a lack of pop with solid run production as he has only 22 runs and 22 RBI in 47 games. The average appears to be legit, but until he can shake the injury bug he will continue to underperform his ample talents.
June 20, 2008
Howie Kendrick had four hits on Friday night to boost his average up to .333 over 111 AB this season.

Our View:No one can doubt this man's ability to hit, but with a track record of health that not even J.D. Drew would envy, we certainly would love to see Howie stay healthy for an extended stretch so that we can truly see what he can do.
June 17, 2008
Howie Kendrick had two hits, scored a run, and knocked one in for the Angels from the seventh hole in the order on Monday night.

Our View:Kendrick has really struggled at the plate hitting .213 since the start of May in 16 games, but once he puts together a few solid outings he could find himself hitting near the top of the Angels order which would obviously increase his value.
June 1, 2008
Howie Kendrick is out of the lineup on Sunday. The Angels are giving him a day off after two straight starts, the Orange County Register reports. "We want him to feel his way back into it," manager Mike Scioscia says. "I think his hamstring is fine. Everything seems to be where it needs to be." Sean Rodriguez will start in his place.

Our View:Fantasy owners can still get Howie back into their lineups for the week ahead. Heck, maybe he'll even stick around for three or four in a row.
May 30, 2008
Howie Kendrick has finally been activated from the DL, according to the AP. Kendrick had been on the shelf for 42 games after straining his left hamstring on April 13, and he said, "Just being hurt is frustrating because you want to be playing. Having to miss this much time and not be out there for this long, it’s just been rough. Hopefully I can stay together and stay out on the field and help us win ballgames. That’s the biggest thing." As an adjoining move, Chone Figgins has unfortunately landed back on the 15-day DL due to irritation in his ailing hamstring.

Our View:Manager Mike Sciosca plans to work Kendrick back in slowly, but noted that his hamstring is 100% healthy again.
May 29, 2008
Howie Kendrick played on back-to-back days for Triple-A Salt Lake, according to CBSsports.com. He played seven innings at second base on Wednesday, and went 1-for-3 with an RBI single.

Our View:That was the first time that he played on consecutive days since injuring his hamstring on April 13. Manager Mike Sciosca believes Kendrick could be ready to return to the Angels this weekend.
May 28, 2008
Howie Kendrick went 0-for-2 for Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday night. The big news was that he actually played. The second baseman aggravated his strained left hamstring on May 6 and had been on the sidelines. Kendrick could rejoin the Angels by this weekend, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Our View:We won't be excited until Garciap... err... Kendrick gets through two or three straight games without issue.
May 25, 2008
Howie Kendrick will work out at Salt Lake today and is expected to begin playing for the triple-A Bees by the middle of the week, according to the LA Times. Kendrick aborted his first rehab assignment after playing two games for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga in early May.

Our View:He should spend about another week or so in the minors before rejoining the Angels.
May 23, 2008
Howie Kendrick tested his injured hamstring for the second day in a row, and he appears to be close to testing his leg in a rehab stint, according to MLB.com. "Howie ran today and ran very well," manager Mike Scioscia said. "He hit, and he'll take ground balls. We're in baseball activities. We anticipate he'll be able to get on a rehab [assignment] shortly. He still has to run the bases, but hopefully, he's turned a corner."

Our View:With the injury to Erick Aybar, the Halos could use Kendrick back in the lineup, and it appears they could get just that in the near future.
May 22, 2008
Angels second baseman Howie Kendrick worked on the outfield turf at Rogers Centre this afternoon, sprinting and working his injured hamstring in an attempt to prepare for his return to action, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Kendrick has been out since April 14th with a strained right hamstring and has been working on his return for several days, and the team reports he may be close. They will review his progress and see how the leg feels on Friday. They stopped short of putting a timetable on those events, but the news is encouraging.
May 20, 2008
Los Angeles second baseman Howie Kendrick took batting practice with the team prior to Tuesday's game against Toronto, but has not been cleared to resume running.

Our View:Kendrick is nursing a strained left hamstring. There is still no timetable for his return.
May 17, 2008
Howie Kendrick didn't go through any of the agility or running drills Friday, according to the LA Daily News. Manager Mike Scioscia said that shouldn't be viewed as a setback, however, and added, "He wasn't supposed to run Friday. He was supposed to take a couple of days off and evaluate it and see where he is."

Our View:His strained left hamstring is healing slowly, and the team did not specify a date when he may return to action.
May 13, 2008
Howie Kendrick's MRI on his strained left hamstring revealed no new damage and doctors believe the "grabbing" he felt was the tearing of scar tissue, according to the LA Times. He aggravated the injury while playing for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga on May 6, and after several days of physical therapy, Kendrick has resumed baseball activities but no timetable has been set for his return. Kendrick said, "It depends how it feels. I feel good today, and I felt good the day after the injury. But I have to strengthen it. The reality is, there's a strain, and I tore some scar tissue."

Our View:Kendrick was on track to return in this coming week, but it now looks like it will be at least another 7-10 days.
May 11, 2008
Howie Kendrick is using physical therapy to work on his sore left hamstring. "Hopefully we'll get some good news on him on Monday and see where he is," manager Mike Scioscia tells the Los Angeles Times. Kendrick is on the DL, and he was pulled out of a rehab stint after tweaking his hamstring on Tuesday.

Our View:The Angels don't really have a timetable right now. Kendrick was on track to return in this coming week, but we imagine it will be at least another 7-10 days.
May 9, 2008
Howie Kendrick sat out a second straight game for Class-A after tweaking his already tender hamstring Tuesday, according to the LA Times.

Our View:Kendrick owners must be frustrated by his slow progress, but he will be worth the wait when he ultimately returns as he was hitting .500 over 10 games, with five doubles, one triple, four RBI, and two stolen bases.
May 7, 2008
Howie Kendrick suffered yet another setback in his recovery from an injured hamstring and he will likely not be back with the Angels until sometime next week, according to MLB.com. "Hamstrings are a life of their own," manager Mike Scioscia said. "Sometimes the last 10 percent can take some time. We want to make sure this thing is 100 percent. The fact he still feels it is indicative that he needs more time.

Our View:Kendrick has felt fine hitting, but when running or trying to field his position he just doesn't feel right. With Chone Figgins and Macier Izturis dealing with their own injuries, Sean Rodriguez should continue to play second for the Angels.
May 6, 2008
Howie Kendrick is scheduled to play a second rehab game for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga tonight and remains on target to be back in the Angels' lineup by the weekend, according to the LA Times. Manager Mike Sciosca said, "We want to get this thing behind him. And if he's at a level he feels good, we'll evaluate him and see when he can rejoin us."

Our View:Kendrick should be safe to return to your lineups in the week ahead. He will be worth the wait, as he was hitting .500 over 36 at-bats, with five doubles, one triple, four RBI, and two stolen bases prior to going down.
May 4, 2008
Howie Kendrick will rejoin the Angels in Kansas City on Monday and come off the DL, MLB.com reports. The second baseman has been out due to a strained left hamstring, and he proved he was ready with a fine rehab showing at High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday.

Our View:Fantasy owners can feel free to activate and use Kendrick in the week ahead.
May 3, 2008
Howie Kendrick could be ready for a rehab start, according to the AP. Kendrick, who was placed on the DL on April 18 due to a strained left hamstring, may make a rehab start with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday. Manager Mike Sciosca said, "It’s not a matter of him getting at-bats. There’s a lot of stuff, prep stuff, like taking a swing, getting out of the box."

Our View:Kendrick is missing more time than expected, but will be worth the wait when he returns, as he was hitting 18-for-36 (.500) with five doubles and one trible over 10 games before getting hurt.
May 2, 2008
Howie Kendrick had hoped to begin a rehab assignment Thursday night at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, but instead he remained in Anaheim because his hamstring has not healed enough to the point he's ready for game action. "He's trying to get over that last little hump," manager Mike Scioscia said in the LA Times. "Until he does, we don't think it's a good idea for him to go out and play. He'll work out, and we'll see how he feels [today]."

Our View:Howie is still likely a few days away from returning, which is unfortunate for the Angels because Maicer Izturis just went on the DL.
May 1, 2008
Howie Kendrick, who has been sidelined since April 14 due to a strained left hamstring, could begin a rehab assignment for Double-A Rancho Cucamonga tonight, according to the LA Times. He is still experiencing a little soreness.

Our View:If Kendrick, who has been running at full speed for several days, suffers no setbacks, he could be activated from the DL on Friday. It is disappointing that he wasn't activated when eligible (on Tuesday), but Kendrick is worth the wait as he went 18-for-36 before getting hurt (five doubles and one triple), with a .694 slugging percentage.
April 30, 2008
Howie Kendrick was eligible to come off the DL on Tuesday, but he did not, according to the LA Times. After Kendrick ran Monday, he said the discomfort in his strained left hamstring was "a little bit still in there." He added, "I'd love to be back sometime this homestand. If it doesn't happen, it's probably in the best interests of being healthy."

Our View:It is disappointing that he wasn't activated when eligible, but Kendrick is worth the wait as he went 18-for-36 before getting hurt (five doubles and one triple), with a .694 slugging percentage. He also stole two bases and only struck out once.
April 28, 2008
Howie Kendrick tried to run at full speed on Sunday but still felt a little discomfort and fatigue in his ailing left hamstring, according to the LA Times. He has been on the shelf since April 14 due to the ailment, and is eligible to come off the DL on Tuesday but probably won't be activated until later in the week. Manager Mike Sciosca commented, "It's moving in the right direction. We're optimistic that if it's not Tuesday, it will be soon after that."

Our View:Kendrick could be out a little bit longer than expected, but he is worth the wait as he went 18-for-36 before getting hurt (five doubles and one triple), with a .694 slugging percentage. He also stole two bases and only struck out once.
April 25, 2008
Howie Kendrick ran at about 85% speed on Wednesday and feels good, according to MLB.com. He will work out in Detroit on Friday and can be activated from the DL on Tuesday when the Angels are facing the Athletics if all goes well.

Our View:He is recovering from a strained right hamstring, and was 18-for-36 before going on the DL. He should pick up where he left off when he returns, and his fantasy stock will be back on the rise soon.
April 19, 2008
The Angels have placed 2B Howie Kendrick on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 14, according to CBSSports.com.

Our View:Kendrick has battled to overcome a strained left hamstring and, following Friday's contest with the Seattle Mariners, the decision was made to give him rest. The Angels have recalled SS Sean Rodriguez from Triple-A Salt Lake to fill his spot on the roster.
April 18, 2008
Howie Kendrick is taking batting practice, but the more important step will come on Friday, when he tests his strained right hamstring by jogging. "If he's not able to run at a good pace by the time we get to Boston, we'll make the determination," manager Mike Scioscia tells the Los Angeles Times. The Angels open a series in Boston next Tuesday.

Our View:It sounds like we may not have a good read on Kendrick's status prior to April 22, which isn't good. If Howie doesn't see action by Sunday, though, we imagine there's a good chance he'll end up on the DL.
April 15, 2008
Howie Kendrick is going to need a few more days of rest, according to the LA Times. Kendrick commented that his strained left hamstring felt better, but isn't expected to return until this weekend, at the earliest. Manager Mike Sciosca added, "He's a little sore. We're going to give this thing a little time to get a read on it, to see what direction it's going. You want to be cautious. You don't want to come back too quickly, and you don't want to put him on the disabled list too quickly. Some guys strain a hamstring, they're playing within a week. Some guys, it takes longer. We'll see."

Our View:Maicer Izturis will continue to fill in at second while Kendrick is out.
April 14, 2008
Updating an earlier report, the Angels will wait a few days before making a move regarding Howie Kendrick. The second baseman injured his left hamstring on Sunday. "We’re going to give it a day or two to read it," manager Mike Scioscia tells the AP. "With hamstrings you have to be cautious. We don’t want him to come back too quick and we don’t want to put him on the DL too quickly." Maicer Izturis will start at second while Kendrick is out.

Our View:Fantasy owners can only hope that Kendrick does indeed return within a few days. The youngster can hit, but he's had trouble staying off the DL in his brief career.
April 14, 2008
Howie Kendrick sustained a hamstring injury during action on Sunday night, and could miss several days, according to the LA Times. He is not expected to land on the DL and commented, "I was hustling, right before second, I tried to turn it on a bit, when I felt my hamstring a little. I tried to shut it down as soon as I felt it. I don't think it popped. I should be able to tell how bad it is."

Our View:Hopefully the ailment isn't serious, as he registered 18 hits over 36 at-bats so far this season, with six extra base hits and two stolen bases.
April 13, 2008
Howie Kendrick's injured thumb clearly isn't a problem. After a 3-for-4 outing on Saturday, he went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI on Sunday. Unfortunately, Kendrick injured his hamstring on his second double and had to leave the game, the AP reports.

Our View:Kendrick is an excellent hitter, but injuries continue to mar his record. We don't know how bad this current ailment is and we'll update you when more info is available.
April 11, 2008
Howie Kendrick was not in the lineup on Friday night, the third straight game he has missed because of his injured thumb, but he took batting practice and was able to throw during pregame work, this according to the Orange County Register. Kendrick should be back in action this weekend, and he will look to pick up where he left off as he is currently hitting .429 through 28 AB.
April 10, 2008
The Angels are hopeful that Howie Kendrick can return to the lineup this weekend, according to the LA Times. He has a jammed thumb, but has been rock solid over eight games, as he is hitting .429 over 28 at-bats, with only one strikeout.
April 8, 2008
Howie Kendrick didn't start Wednesday, but X-rays on his injured right thumb were negative, and the second baseman expects to be back in the lineup soon, according to MLB.com. He was hit by a Fausto Carmona pitch Monday and was removed from the game. "I didn't think anything was broken when it happened," Kendrick said. "I could still move it. There's a tendon or nerve that runs across the hand there at the thumb, and it started to swell up. Maybe I popped a blood vessel. I'll see how it feels and try to get back out there when I can. I don't want to miss much time the way things are going." Kendrick missed five weeks last year after getting hit by a pitch on the left hand, so his owners probably automatically assumed the worst in this instance. It's good to know he'll be OK, though.
April 8, 2008
Howie Kendrick left the Angels game on Monday night in the fourth inning with a jammed right thumb. Kendrick is hitting .429 in the early going and his loss would be a significant blow to the team's offense. Macier Izturis came into the game to fill in at second base.
April 5, 2008
Howie Kendrick had two hits, an RBI and he stole a base for the Angels on Saturday night. Kendrick is now 10-for-23 (.435) on the year. He has only one K on the season but he also has only one walk, so unless he learns to have a bit more patience he will likely be hard pressed to match last years .322 mark.
March 5, 2008
Howie Kendrick will be looking to run more this season, this according to MLB.com. "Howie certainly has the ability to steal between 20 and 30 bases a year," manager Mike Scioscia said. This is the type of non-sense we hear from managers each spring. Kendrick does have 11 SB in 160 career games so he offers some 5x5 value for sure, doubling that figure this year seems like a stretch.
