Ryan Garko had two hits and a run scored on Monday night as the Indians rested Victor Martinez allowing Kelly Shoppach to start behind the plate and giving Garko a shot to start.

Our View:Garko hit 21 home runs last season in 484 AB and he has followed that up with just 10 in 426 this year. Though his power and average have declined (.289 to .256), he has actually been a better run producer with 70 RBI (he had 61 last season). He will likely need some big hits down the stretch to be in the lineup on a daily basis now that Martinez is back.

Ryan Garko may not be in the Indians plan as their everyday first baseman in 2009, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. "I'm not sure how that's going to play out, just because I'm uncertain about what the winter is going to lead to," Indians manager Eric Wedge remarked.

Our View:Garko has not had a wonderful year, disappointing his team and fantasy owners with an average of .256 along with just 10 home runs.

It seems that Indians manager Eric Wedge's benching of Ryan Garko sure sent the message. According to Indians.com in the month of August, after Wedge benched Garko, he has responded with an average of .307 and 20 RBI.

Our View:Garko has hit 10 home runs on the year and driven in 70 runs.

Ryan Garko wasn't in the starting lineup on Friday night after not running out a groundout in the Tribes game on Wednesday night, according to MLB.com. "I'm just not playing him today," manager Eric Wedge said. "I'm not sure when I'm going to put him out there. We'll play it day by day."

Our View:Garko has been a disappointment all season with only eight home runs and a terrible .659 OPS. Maybe he should have done us all a favor and stopped hustling a bit earlier so we could have stopped running him out there in our lineup to produce middling numbers.
August 6, 2008
Ryan Garko was forced out of Wednesday's game in the third inning due to an apparent leg injury.

Our View:He was working as the DH, and sustained the injury while grounding out in his first at-bat. He was replaced by Andy Marte.
