Huston Street will likely take over as the A's closer now that Octavio Dotel is on the DL with a strained right elbow. Street is viewed as the A's closer of the future and has recorded 27 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings this season along with a 2.01 ERA.

With Octavio Dotel unavailable due to injury, the A's were planning on using Huston Street as the closer if needed on Wednesday, according to the Mercury News. "They told me today if we have the lead in the ninth, I was the guy," Street said after Wednesday's game. As it turned out, Street was never needed in a 13-6 rout over Boston. It's unclear how long Dotel will be unavailable, so Street could see more opportunities over the next few days.
