Adam Jones, who has received sporadic playing time since being called up in August, will play winter ball in Venezuela after the season, according to the Seattle Times. "He's learning every day, even though he's not playing," manager John McLaren said. "He gets individual instruction in the cage. He's refining his game. In all honesty, when you bring a top kid like him up, you'd like to get him some playing time, but the situation just hasn't presented itself. If you break it down, I just don't know where he'd play. Raul [Ibanez] is going to have 100 RBIs, [Jose] Guillen is going to have 100 RBIs. Replace Ichiro? Not right now." Even though he has limited big-league experience, Jones could surprise with consistent playing time in 2008.

Adam Jones was out of the lineup for the third time in five games Wednesday since being called up from the minors, according to the Seattle Times. Jones is expected to be in the lineup tonight, but manager John McLaren is in no rush to get the youngster playing time. "Even if he doesn't play it's a good learning process for him," McLaren said. "We're going to use him in different places, spot starts, defense, pinch running, possible pinch-hitting. It's not a priority for me to find him a place to play right now."

As expected, the Mariners recalled Adam Jones from Triple-A on Friday, according to the AP. Jones, who hit .314 with 25 homers for Tacoma, should see regular playing time in the Mariners outfield. He's certainly worth adding in AL-only leagues, and he may even be worth a look in deep mixed leagues.

Adam Jones, who is hitting .314 with a .382 OBP, 25 homers, 84 RBI and eight steals at Triple-A, will be recalled on Friday, according to the Mariners website. Manager John McLaren would not talk about Jones' role with the team, but at least at this point, you have to figure he'll get a shot to stick in the everyday lineup. For what it's worth, Jones did struggle in his stint with the big-league club last year, hitting just .216 in 74 at-bats.

It turns out that Adam Jones may not be promoted after all - at least not right away. Mariners manager John McLaren said Wednesday he knew nothing of a potential promotion of Jones, and he said he wouldn't be in favor of it at this point. "I haven't had that conversation with anybody," McLaren said in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. "To be honest with you, we're playing well right now with the guys we have here. I wouldn't want to interrupt that now. Now, the organization might have a different thought and might call me... and we'll talk about something different. But right now things are going well up here." A previous report said that Jones would be called up today and be installed as the everyday right fielder, which would move Jose Guillen to left, Raul Ibanez to DH and Jose Vidro to the bench. That may very well end up happening, but it doesn't look like it will happen right away.

The Mariners are about to shake up their lineup, as they're expected to call up top prospect Adam Jones Thursday. Jones is slated to start in right field Thursday and will be the team's regular there in the immediate future. Jose Guillen will move over to left field, Raul Ibanez will be inserted in the DH spot, and Jose Vidro will be relegated to bench duty, according to the Post-Intelligencer. Jones struggled in his time with the M's last year, but he has been terrific at Triple-A Tacoma this season, hitting .309 with 21 homers and 72 RBI.
