Pirates left-handed starter Tom Gorzelanny will begin throwing at the end of the month, as he rehabs from a strained ligament in the middle finger of his throwing hand, according to Pirates.com.

Our View:Gorzelanny was an epic disappointment to fantasy owners last year, with an ominous ERA of 6.66 and more walks than strikeouts in 105.1 big league innings.

Tom Gorzelanny is done for the year due to a sprained middle finger on his pitching hand, according to the Beaver County Times. "It's a frustrating end to a frustrating season," Gorzelanny said. "It's unfortunate for it to end this way. I wanted to be able to pitch a few more times but now I'll just get an earlier start on my off-season workouts and work hard on coming back stronger and having a better season next year."

Our View:Gorzelanny ends the year with the unfortunate ERA of 6.66 in what was a hugely disappointing season. Hopefully he'll rebound in 2009. Jimmy Barthmaier will take his spot in the rotation on Tuesday.

Tom Gorzelanny is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to his irritated left middle finger, but will know for sure following today's MRI, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:If Gorzelanny is lost for the season, manager John Russell has several options in consideration. One is moving Jason Davis or T.J. Beam out of the bullpen and into the rotation. Another is a recall of a minor leaguer, such as Jimmy Barthmaier.

Even though Tom Gorzelanny is injured and almost certain to miss his next scheduled start, if not the rest of the season, the Pirates still plan on going with a 6-man rotation the rest of the way, according to MLB.com.

Our View:The team will likely turn to either Jason Davis or T.J. Beam, or they could call up Jimmy Barthmaier to take Gorzelanny's spot in the rotation which would allow the Pirates to start each of the six men three more times this season. None of the three is fantasy worthy.

Tom Gorzelanny may miss the rest of the season with an injury to his left middle finger, according to the AP.

Our View:Manager John Russell suggested it might be ligament damage, but no definite diagnosis will be known until Gorzelanny undergoes an MRI on Friday when the Pirates return to Pittsburgh. The 26-year-old pitcher held little to no fantasy value with a 6.66 ERA and 1.80 WHIP over 21 starts.
