The Kansas City Star reports that left-hander Lenny DiNardo refused an assignment to Triple-A Omaha and has opted for free agency.

Our View:A stud in the minors last season, DiNardo was brutalized while pitching for the Royals. He held an embarrassing 10.13 ERA and 2.63 WHIP over five starts, so don't expect anyone to give the 30-year-old a shot in their rotation. Some team will likely pick him up in hopes that they can turn him into a lefty specialist.

Lenny DiNardo was rocked for seven runs (five earned) on six hits over one inning in Friday's 10-7 loss at Minnesota. He had two walks and no strikeouts.

Our View:DiNardo remains winless over five starts, and has a terrible 9.28 ERA.

Lenny DiNardo was lit up for eight earned runs on 10 hits over five innings in Monday's 12-9 win over the Red Sox at Kauffman Stadium. He issued six walks with no strikeouts.

Our View:This was a dreadful performance for DiNardo, but the Royals scored enough runs for him to end the night with a no-decision. He gave up 12 earned runs over his last two starts this month.

Lenny DiNardo was tagged for four earned runs on nine hits over 5.1 innings in Wednesday's 4-3 loss at Detroit. He had one walk with two strikeouts.

Our View:DiNardo suffered his first loss over two starts this season. He allowed two earned runs over five innings in his previous start against Detroit on September 10.

MLB.com is reporting that Royals' pitcher Lenny DiNardo will start on Wednesday in place of Bruce Chen. Chen will be moved to the bullpen, and DiNardo is expected to remain in the rotation for the rest of the season.

Our View:DiNardo wasn't bad in his first start of 2009 on Thursday, and he has to be better than Bruce Chen. He was successful in the minors this season, but any fantasy value he has is limited to extremely deep AL-only leagues, if at all.
