Undisclosed clubs have been inquiring about Indians' hurler Fausto Carmona, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:He struggled last season with a 1.62 WHIP, but it would still take a lot to pry Carmona away from the Indians, especially since they already dealt ace CC Sabathia last season.
September 25, 2008
Indians hurler Fausto Carmona saw his suspension reduced to five games, and he will begin serving it Thursday, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.

Our View:Carmona had been suspended for six games, but his reduced suspension means he'll miss the rest of this season and the first game next year.
September 22, 2008
Fausto Carmona has been suspended for six games for his role in the Tigers-Indians brawl last Friday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Carmona is set to begin his suspension this evening, though it is unclear at this time if he will appeal the ruling or accept the punishment. Given his poor work on the hill this season (5.19 ERA, 1.59 WHIP), his loss likely wouldn't be too hard to overcome for his owners.
September 21, 2008
Indians pitcher Fausto Carmona, teammate Victor Martinez, Tigers outfielder Gary Sheffield and possibly others will learn their fate in terms of suspensions and fines on Monday after taking part in a brawl on Friday, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.

Our View:Suspensions are likely for the three players, though the hardest hit will probably be Sheffield, as he took the unusual step of charging the mound from first base.
September 19, 2008
Fausto Carmona was ejected from Friday night's start with Cleveland according to the AP. In the seventh inning, after hitting Gary Sheffield to put him on first base, Carmona made a throw to first base. Afterward, Sheffield appeared to yell at Carmona, telling him to throw a pitch instead, and the righthander responded with words of his own. Sheffield proceeded to run toward the mound and lunged at Carmona as the benches and bullpens cleared. Carmona appeared to unload a few punches as players from both teams crowded around the pair before they eventually were separated. The brawl lasted for several minutes, with minor scuffles breaking out between other players. Carmona and the Indians were losing 4-2 when the incident occurred.

Our View:Carmona, who has struggled with walks all season, had otherwise good command on Friday as he avoided walking any batters in 6.1 innings. His ERA did go up three points in the contest to 5.19.
September 19, 2008
Fausto Carmona has scuffled with his command this year, but there always seems to be that one team that offers refuge for the struggling. Carmona is 3-0 with a 3.32 ERA against tonight's opponent this season, Detroit, and 6-2 with a 3.34 ERA lifetime mark.

Our View:Entering the 2009 fantasy campaign, there will be questions about whether Carmona's 2007 season was a career year.
September 13, 2008
Fausto Carmona was lit up for seven earned runs on 11 hits over 6.1 innings in Saturday's 8-3 loss to Kansas City, with three walks and two strikeouts.

Our View:Carmona has allowed seven earned runs in back-to-back starts, and will remain a risky fantasy hurler for mixed-leagues.
September 9, 2008
Fausto Carmona walked four over 5.1 innings in a 14-3 loss to Baltimore on Monday night. His lack of command and success aren't likely to improve this season. The Indians' right-hander is 8-6 with a 4.21 K rate and 5.55 BB rate.

Our View:These peripherals won't help Fausto or fantasy owners.
August 27, 2008
Fausto Carmona was on his game this evening, leading his Indians to the 9-7 win over Detroit. Carmona pitched six innings, allowing four runs (all earned) on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Our View:Carmona moves to 7-5 on the season with the win, claiming an ERA of 4.50. Since returning from injury, he has gone 3-3 with 22 walks and 20 strikeouts.
August 22, 2008
Fausto Carmona threw a solid six innings, surrendering just six hits and not allowing an earned run to pick up his sixth victory in the team's 7-5 win over Texas.

Our View:This is two good starts in a row for Carmona, who has not been consistent since coming off the disabled list. He did walk three, but struck out five as well.
August 11, 2008
Fausto Carmona was torched, yet again, for seven runs in 6.1 innings on Monday night. Carmona allowed six hits and four walks on the night though he emerged with a no decision.

Our View:Face it, Carmona just isn't right and simply cannot be counted on with an amazing 51 BB and just 35 K. With a ratio like that, it's pretty amazing that his ERA is only 4.91, though it's only due to an impossible to sustain HR/F ratio of 4.8%.
August 5, 2008
MLB.com reports Indians SP Fausto Carmona (5-3, 4.18 ERA) will start Tuesday, August 5, against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Our View:Carmona hopes to take strides in the right direction, as this is only his third start since returning from the DL back on July 26.
July 31, 2008
Fausto Carmona had a solid outing Thursday in his second start back from the DL, holding the Tigers to two earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three over 6 1/3 innings.

Our View:This was encouraging for Carmona owners considering how Fausto fared in his first start back from the DL (nine runs allowed in 2 1/3 innings). The most encouraging part was that he walked just one.
July 26, 2008
Fausto Carmona made his first start since May 23, and the Minnesota Twins lit him up, as he gave up nine runs in 2.1 innings on seven hits and three walks.

Our View:Certainly not the start fantasy owners were hoping for, as his ERA skyrocketed from 3.10 to 4.33.
July 26, 2008
As anticipated, the Indians have activated pitcher Fausto Carmona from the disabled list, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Carmona was on the DL since May 24 after leaving his start the night before against Texas with a left hip strain. He made a rehab appearance with Single-A Lake County and Double-A Akron and will start on Saturday versus Minnesota. He'll get the start this evening against Minnesota.
July 23, 2008
Fausto Carmona remains on track to return to the Indians' rotation this weekend, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He did not have any issues during his 40-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, and his hip is no longer a problem.

Our View:Manager Eric Wedge has him slated to start on Saturday against the Twins. Carmona will provide a boost to the Indians, as well as fantasy squads, and should be penciled back into lineups for the weekend.
July 22, 2008
Fausto Carmona is scheduled to throw a side session Tuesday in his last step before being activated from the DL, according to the AP.

Our View:Barring a setback in his recovery from a hip strain, the team plans to activate him this weekend for a start against the Twins. Carmona will provide a boost to the Indians, as well as fantasy squads, when he returns.
July 22, 2008
The Indians are planning to activate Fausto Carmona on Saturday for a start against the Twins, the AP reports. Carmona has been out since May 24 due to a left hip strain.

Our View:Carmona was 3-1 with a 1.45 ERA against the Twins last year, so that seems like a good matchup. Of course, the Indians were a much better team at the time. Fantasy owners can prepare to activate Fausto for their teams, too.
July 21, 2008
Fausto Carmona is expected to return to the Indians' rotation this weekend following his bout with a strained hip, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:Carmona will throw one more pen session as a final tuneup before his return. Jeremy Sowers will stay in the rotation, and Matt Ginter would be the likely candidate to be dropped.
July 17, 2008
Fausto Carmona will go five innings or 80 pitches on Monday at Class AA Akron. He could be ready in a week, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:Carmona has looked good in his rehab so far. If he throws well on Monday, look for him to make a start for the Indians next weekend.
July 15, 2008
Fausto Carmona was solid in his first rehab outing with Single-A Asheville on Monday, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. He allowed just one hit over four innings.

Our View:He felt great following the outing, and thinks he is ready to return to the Indians, but the team has to make that decision. It is likely that the Indians' staff would like to see Carmona make at least one more start, and that could come this weekend with the Double-A Aeros.
July 11, 2008
The AP reports that Fausto Carmona is scheduled to start a rehab assignment Monday at Class A Lake County.

Our View:It's about time! He will see multiple starts in the minors before his 3.10 ERA returns to the Cleveland rotation.
July 11, 2008
Fausto Carmona, who is recovering from a strained left hip, threw a 50-pitch simulated game on Thursday, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Our View:If he shows no ill effects Friday, he likely will be sent on a rehab assignment. He could return soon after the All-Star break.
July 9, 2008
Fausto Carmona is scheduled to throw a 50-pitch simulated session Thursday, this according to the Indians' team website. The right-handed sinkerballer is expected to make a minimum of two Minor League starts before he's ready to rejoin the rotation.

Our View:Carmona has missed approximately nine starts to a left hip strain.
July 8, 2008
Fausto Carmona threw a side session on Tuesday but the Indians will not bring him back prior to the All-Star break according to the AP.

Our View:No reason to rush this. Carmona had a disturbing 38 walks to just 23 strikeouts before going on the DL.
June 27, 2008
The Akron Beacon Journal reports that the pain in Fausto Carmona's hip is no longer bothering the right-hander and he will take up where he left off in his throwing program. ''Fausto will play catch tomorrow,'' manager Eric Wedge said. ''He will have to go through some of [what he already had completed] that again, but he won't start from ground zero.''

Our View:Before the hip set him back in his rehab work, Carmona was ready to begin his minor league rehab starts. There still hasn't been any talk about when the Indians' starter will be back in the rotation.
June 22, 2008
Cleveland reports RHP Fausto Carmona , listed on the team's 15-day disables list since May 24th, has been shut down for the last week and will be given a full medical evaluation on Monday, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Carmona had completed a three-inning simulated game and reported soreness in his hip the following day. Carmona (4-2, 3.10 ERA) was originally scheduled to go out on a minor league rehab assignment over the weekend, but that plan was scrapped when the soreness set in.
June 18, 2008
Cleveland RHP Fausto Carmona will have his return to the mound delayed for at least three more days due to today's MRI results that reveal continued inflammation in his left hip, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:Carmona strained the hip in a start against Texas on May 23 at Progressive Field. He went on the disabled list the next day. Carmona threw a 50-pitch, three-inning simulated game Monday at Class A Mahoning Valley. He returned to Progressive Field on Tuesday and complained of soreness in the hip. The hip was still sore today. He had been scheduled to make rehab starts on June 20 and June 25. If those went well, he would have been ready to rejoin the rotation. Now the Indians will play it as it comes and have yet to put a revised timetable for events to Carmona.
June 17, 2008
Fausto Carmona threw a three-inning, 50-pitch simulated game at Single-A Mahoning Valley Monday, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. However, when the righty reported to Progressive Field on Tuesday, he complained of soreness in the hip. Indians head physician Dr. Mark Schickendantz will examine Carmona today. Lonnie Solof, Indians head athletic trainer, said a bit of soreness in Carmona's hip was expected, but added, "we're going to proceed with caution."

Our View:Carmona was set to make his first rehab start sometime this week, but that won't happen. We'll continue to update you on his progress.
June 14, 2008
Cleveland starter Fausto Carmona completed a successful bullpen session today and manager Eric Wedge hints he could be back sooner rather than later, according to MLB.com.

Our View:The Indians have been without the top starters since the 24-year-old Carmona went on the disabled list May 24 with a strained left hip. He is scheduled to thrwo a simulated game on Monday. If that goes well, Carmona will be sent to the minors for rehab starts.
June 12, 2008
Fausto Carmona threw his first bullpen session on Thursday since injuring his left hip on May 24th, according to MLB.com. Carmona threw 35 pitches, all fastballs and changeups, and reported after the outing that he felt fine. "It went very well," head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff said. "If all progresses well, he'll throw a 50-pitch, all-pitch bullpen Saturday."

Our View:The plan is for Carmona to throw on Saturday and then head out for his first rehab start next week. He is likely still a couple of weeks from returning, but his progress is encouraging.
June 2, 2008
Fausto Carmona will play catch from 60 feet on Tuesday. It will be his first rehab step as his returns from a left hip strain, the AP reports.

Our View:Sons and fathers across the world will also be playing catch on Tuesday. Call us when Carmona is throwing off a mound. Fausto is roughly one week into his four-week timetable.
May 25, 2008
Fausto Carmona is expected to miss four weeks of action after being placed on the DL with a strained left hip, according to the AP. An MRI exam revealed a moderate strain of an exterior muscle in Carmona’s left hip. Head trainer Lonnie Soloff said, "The good news is that there was no damage to the interior, which would have been much more serious. If all goes well, Fausto should be able to start playing catch in about seven days."

Our View:The Indians are expected to activate Jake Westbrook from the DL to take Carmona's place in the rotation.
May 24, 2008
The Indians placed Fausto Carmona on the DL Saturday with a strained left hip. Carmona injured the hip in last night's loss to the Rangers. The team purchased the contract of Scott Elarton from Triple_A Buffalo to replace Carmona on the roster.

Our View:Jake Westbrook is expected to take Carmona's place in the rotation next week.
May 23, 2008
Fausto Carmona strained his left hip in Friday's loss to the Rangers, according to the AP. He is considered day-to-day.

Our View:It sounds like Carmona should be able to make his next start, but the Tribe has options with Jake Westbrook ready to come off the DL.
May 23, 2008
Fausto Carmona was forced to leave Friday's game in the third inning with an apparent leg injury, according to the AP. The righty was slow to cover first base on a ball hit by Texas' David Murphy, who beat the throw. He threw one strike to the next batter before summoning the trainer. Carmona then flexed his left leg and threw one practice pitch before walking to the dugout. He was getting hammered before leaving and ended up getting charged with six runs in two frames of work.

Our View:We'll let you know when we get and updates on Fausto.
May 17, 2008
Fausto Carmona is set to battle the Reds today, according to MLB.com. Carmona is 4-1 this season with a 2.40 ERA, but still has a poor 1.64 WHIP, due to 35 walks over 48.2 innings. He only has 18 strikeouts as well.

Our View:Carmona only registered less than four walks in one of eight starts, and his control issues have prevented him from being a strong fantasy starter this season.
May 12, 2008
Fausto Carmona pitched a complete-game five-hit shut-out on Monday afternoon extending the Jays offensive woes. It was Cleveland's second consecutive shutout over struggling Toronto. The 3-0 victory by Cleveland is the first of a day-night double-header. Carmona gave Cliff Lee a tough act to follow. Lee, 6-0 with a major league-leading 0.81 ERA, is scheduled to start the second game for the Indians.

Our View:Carmona, who has struggled with his command this season, showed slight improvement on Monday but still walked four batters while striking out three. This is a concern, especially since the Indians right-hander had Andy Fletcher, arguably one of the biggest strike zones among active umpires, calling his balls and strikes today.
May 11, 2008
Fausto Carmona and A.J. Burnett will need to wait a day for their duel. The Indians and Blue Jays were rained out on Sunday, and the clubs will play a double-header on Monday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer confirms.

Our View:Many fantasy leaguers won't need to make any adjustments here. This is mainly an FYI for leagues with daily transactions.
May 6, 2008
Fausto Carmona held the Yankees to three runs over five innings on Tuesday. We say "held" because he issues six hits and five walks while striking out only two batters. Carmona threw only 52 of his 95 pitches for strikes.

Our View:Carmona has now walked 31 batters in 39.2 innings, which is awful. He should count his lucky stars that his ERA is somehow still at 2.95. Carmona can't keep this up and expect to win games or keep runs off the board.
May 6, 2008
Fausto Carmona will take the mound against New York tonight, and is yet to win at Yankee Stadium, according to MLB.com. Carmona is 0-0 with a 3.24 ERA in three career appearances in the Bronx.

Our View:Carmona is 3-1 this season with a 2.60 ERA, but still has a poor 1.73 WHIP, due to 26 walks over 34.2 innings. His strikeouts are also down, as he only has 13 so far. He will need to throw with better control tonight if he is to nail down his first win at Yankee Stadium.
April 29, 2008
Fausto Carmona will be targeting his fourth win of the season when he challenges the Mariners tonight, according to MLB.com. Carmona is 3-1 with a 2.89 ERA but holds a 1.71 WHIP, and allowed 22 walks over 28 innings. Carmona is 1-1 with a 7.88 ERA over two career appearances against Seattle.

Our View:Carmona only racked up 11 strikeouts so far as well, and really needs to work on his control and cut down on his walks in tonight's matchup. He will duel with Carlos Silva, who is 3-0.
April 24, 2008
Fausto Carmona improved to 3-1 on the season despite allowing four runs in five innings on Thursday.

Our View:Carmona walked another four batters on the day and he now has 22 BB in 28 IP. He has been able to get by to this point, but if he doesn't reign in his stuff, it could get ugly quickly.
April 17, 2008
Fausto Carmona allowed a run in 6.2 innings as the Indians defeated the Detroit Tigers 11-1 on Thursday night. Carmona allowed seven hits, struck out two and walked one in the win.

Our View:The Indians new ace, now that C.C Sabathia is on sabbatical, helped the slumping Indians raise their record to 6-10 on the season.
April 12, 2008
Fausto Carmona set a career-high with eight walks on Saturday in just 3.1 innings which led three runs and his first loss on the year.

Our View:Carmona now has an amazing 17 BB in just 16.1 innings on the season meaning that there may not be a more deceiving number than his 2.20 ERA which certainly doesn't speak to how poorly he is really pitching right now.
April 10, 2008
Fausto Carmona has reportedly signed a new four-year deal with the Indians, according to the AP. The deal is worth $15 million, and includes options from 2012-2014. He notably won 19 games in 2007, and is off to a 1-0 start in 2008, with a 0.69 ERA.
April 8, 2008
Fausto Carmona dominated the Angels on Monday holding them to one unearned run in six innings on the hill. Though he limited the damage, runners were on all night against Carmona as he allowed four hits and five walks. Carmona has now allowed one earned run over his first 13 innings though his WHIP sits at 1.31.
April 2, 2008
Fausto Carmona enjoyed a solid outing in his first start of the season, pitching seven full innings in the Indians' 7-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. Carmona allowed just one run on four hits, surrendering four walks balanced with four strike outs, giving him a 1.29 ERA to start the campaign. More impressively, Carmona enticed 16 ground balls versus just one fly ball on the evening, a great sign movin forward.
March 23, 2008
Fausto Carmona allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits (one home run) against Detroit on Sunday, with two strikeouts and two walks. His spring ERA sits at 4.30 as he tries to build upon his 19 win season of 2007.
March 13, 2008
Fausto Carmona earned his second win of the spring on Thursday, but his performance was shaky as he allowed three runs on five hits over four innings, with only one strikeout. Carmona aims to build on the momentum that led to 19 wins in 2007, but he carries a 5.19 ERA so far this spring.
