Felix Hernandez threw a side session yesterday, and Mariners manager Jim Riggleman would like to get him a start before the All-Star break, according to the Seattle Times.

Our View:Hopefully Riggleman won't rush Hernandez back. The Mariners are out of the race, so pushing it does not seem wise. Hernandez has been great for fantasy owners this year, and they'd surely take one less start of Hernandez if it means he can come back and continue to throw like he has.

Felix Hernandez not only will not make his scheduled start on Tuesday, his injured ankle will in fact force him to the DL, according to MLB.com. "He threw a few pitches and the landing foot is still not really right, and we're not going to put him out there till it is right," manager Jim Riggleman said.

Our View:So much for him making his next start. The hope is that Hernandez will be ready to go right before the All-Star game since the move was retroactive to June 24th. In the long run this might actually work to his benefit by allowing him some time to rest his young arm.

Felix Hernandez, who is dealing with a left ankle injury, is not expected to make his start on Tuesday, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Manager Jim Riggleman will mix and match a group of relievers, likely including Ryan Rowland-Smith, Roy Corcoran, Sean Green and Mark Lowe, to get through Tuesday. Riggleman added, "It may not even matter which one starts the game Tuesday. It's going to be a combination of guys. Try to see if one of them can stretch it out a little more than the others, maybe, so that we can conserve some guys for the day before and the day after that."

Our View:Jim Riggleman said he won't know a potential return date for Hernandez until he gets on a mound and throws to test his injured ankle. So far, the training staff hasn't allowed that, preferring for Hernandez to rest. A trip to the DL is not expected.

Felix Hernandez remains out due to a sore left ankle. The staff thought he might test the ankle by throwing on Sunday, but that didn't happen, the Seattle Times reports. The Mariners will likely use someone out of their bullpen to start on Tuesday. "(Ryan) Rowland-Smith would be a candidate," manager Jim Riggleman says. "(Roy) Corcoran, (Sean) Green, (Mark) Lowe. It may not really even matter which one starts. It's just going to be a combination of the guys."

Our View:Hernandez injured the ankle on June 23, and it doesn't sound like the M's are quite ready to simply put him on the DL. At this point, fantasy owners can't count on Felix to start this week, though.
June 25, 2008
Felix Hernandez will not make his next scheduled start on Sunday due to his injured ankle, according to MLB.com. "We're not counting on Felix for Sunday," interim manager Jim Riggleman said. "We are going to be realistic and are making some plans around him not pitching on Sunday." The team hopes that Erik Bedard will be able to make the start.

Our View:This seemed like how it would go from the moment he was injured despite the fact that the team talked big about King Felix making his next start. Hopefully he will avoid the DL, but that still has to be considered a possibility.
