Player Notes
August 24, 2008
Florida's Ricky Nolasco won his 13th game of the season by pitching 7.1 innings of three-hit ball against the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs and striking out ten in the team's 5-2 win over Arizona.

Our View:Nolasco has had a great year, displaying great control with the ability to make people swing and miss. Remember his name when fantasy season rolls around next year.

Florida will try for a rebound today behind its best starting pitcher this season. RHP Ricky Nolasco tops the Marlins with 12 wins for the year to go along with a very solid 3.67 earned run average over 27 games (25 starts), according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:Nolasco was on top of his game in Tuesday's outing at San Francisco, firing a complete-game two-hitter with 11 strikeouts to register his first career shutout. The dominating performance improved the 25-year-old to 7-3 in 14 road starts this season. He's also been quite successful when facing the Diamondbacks during his three major league seasons. Nolasco has won all three of his career starts against Arizona and allowed just five runs and 15 hits in 22 1/3 innings over the course of those games. Two of those victories came earlier this year, with Nolasco surrendering just two runs and racking up 16 strikeouts over a span of 15 innings.

All the credit for tonight's 6-0 win over the Giants goes to Florida RHP Ricky Nolasco, pitching the complete game to allow just two hits, one walk, and striking out 11 batters along the way.

Our View:Nolasco has been surprisingly reliable, now sitting at 12-7 on the season with an ERA or 3.67. Over his last five starts, he's allowed a combined total of 10 earned runs with one walk and 41 strikeouts.

Ricky Nolasco, who was 5-0 before the All Star break, hasn't been the dominating arm since, but he's also faced off against some stiff competition. The right-hander gave up two runs on 10 hits in six innings to a good hitting Cardinals batting order in his last start, so tonight's task of subduing the Giants will be a cake wake in comparison.

Our View:Florida has the power bats to take advantage of the elements (wind blowing out) tonight, and they have the right pitcher on the mound to shut down the top of the Giants' order. No team is a worse fit to their home park than that of the Giants. San Fran is 17-24 at home against right-handed starters and score a mere 3.78 runs per game. Florida on the other hand is 20-19 on the road against righties and have pounded out an average of 5.46 runs per contest

Ricky Nolasco was solid in his effort against St. Louis tonight. He went six innings, and though he gave up 10 hits, he surrendered just two earned runs and struck out five.

Our View:Nolasco is certainly worthy of a roster spot on fantasy squads. He has good strikeout totals, a solid WHIP, 11 wins and an ERA that remains under 4.00.
