Player Notes
October 19, 2008
Jon Lester struck out eight hitters through seven innings but he also surrendered three runs in Boston's final game of 2008, a 3-1 loss to Tampa Bay in Game 7.

Our View:Lester had been the recipient of a lot of hype this postseason after an excellent ALDS. However, his ALCS was mostly forgettable as he loss twice to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Jon Lester is prepared to start Game 7 if Boston can stay alive in tonight's Game 6 against the Rays, trailing in the series 3-2, according to the AP. Lester said, "You can’t get your emotions one way or another. You have to wait and see and, hopefully, we can pull it off and then come tomorrow, turn the switch on, and go get them. I’ve done the same workouts, and done everything that I normally do in between starts. It’s just a matter of mentally staying focused enough to come out and pitch a good game."

Our View:Lester would be opposed by Matt Garza if there is a Game 7. Lester would be looking to redeem himself after allowing five runs in Game Three's loss.

Red Sox hurler Jon Lester was hammered by the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3 of the ALCS, allowing five runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings.

Our View:Boston manager Terry Francona set it up so Lester would be available to pitch a potential Game 7. For the Sox to win, they will have to at least go six games, so Lester may get a shot at redemption in the series.
October 6, 2008
Jon Lester dominated the Angels for seven scoreless innings though his reward was a no-decision. However, the Red Sox came back to win the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, 3-2, to move on the the ALCS against the Rays.

Our View:The matchup everyone wanted to see will occur. The Rays can't be looking forward to facing Lester who simply pounded the strike zone tonight in a dominating effort as he outpitched John Lackey for the second time in the series.
October 2, 2008
Jon Lester was exceptional in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Angels. He allowed one unearned run over seven innings while striking out seven. The Red Sox have now defeated the Angels 10 straight times in the postseason.

Our View:Lester seemed to get even better as the game went on and made analyst Dennis Eckersley look like a genius. Eck had said throughout pregame coverage that Lester, not Beckett, was the best pitcher on the Red Sox.
