Sergio Mitre allowed five hits and three runs in four innings of work against the Tigers on Saturday.

Our View:In other words, nothing that will make the Yankees strongly consider him for their fifth starter's job.

Sergio Mitre pitched well against the Twins on Sunday, pitching three scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Our View:On one hand, it was against a split-squad Minnesota team, though that certainly didn't help most of the Yankees other pitchers, as Chad Gaudin, Kei Igawa and D.J Mitchell all struggled. Mitre has an outside shot at the No. 5 starting spot in New York if the Yankees opt to place both Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes in middle relief or setup roles.

Sergio Mitre has avoided salary arbitration with the Yankees by signing an $850,000, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

Our View:Incentives could push the deal closer to $1 million. Many believed the Yankees were going to part ways with Mitre and his 6.79 2009 ERA, so this deal is certainly a win for the ex-Marlin.
